Job Description

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist, as a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care.  He/she consistently demonstrates professional skills and abilities, utilizes his/her knowledge base and proficient skills to act as a collegial consultant and resource person.  She/he demonstrates motivation and creativity and serves as a catalyst for effective changes within the unit.  The Clinical Exercise Physiologist provides patient care consistent with Standards of Care/Practice, Hoag Hospital Code of Conduct, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan and Professional Organization Standards.  He/she maintains competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patient diverse cultural backgrounds. He/she can identify the ability of the adult and geriatric patients to follow direction/instructions and give consent. He/she can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment; and provide appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the adult and geriatric patient population.

 

The Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Cardiac Rehabilitation, assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting the participant in achieving his/her optimal functional capacity through exercise, education, and risk factor modification. They must demonstrate professional skills and knowledge of the Cardiac Rehabilitation monitored and unmonitored participants. He/she also demonstrates motivation and creativity and participates in the development and/or implementation of standards, policies, and procedures, which effect clinical practice. He/she assumes responsibility and accountability in managing and monitoring these participants in the Cardiac Rehabilitation program. He/she utilizes his/her knowledge base and skills to assist with other staff members in the role of preceptor and resource person. He/she demonstrates and maintains professional judgement and behavior and provides a safe environment for all Cardiac Rehabilitation participants.

 

Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the department mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Diploma in the field of Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or related field.
  • BLS required
  • ACLS (to be obtained within the first year of employment).
  • Previous experience in dysrrhythmia detection and identification.
  • Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of the participants and health care colleagues.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of section specific test information and instrumentation may be required.
