Introduction to the Role:

As a Software/System Engineer intern in the HP Storage Division Advanced Development team, you'll work with system designers and other developers in the design & development of new HP Storage systems and solutions. You may work on leading edge technologies in such areas as persistent memory, data de-duplication, data migration, data services, storage management, and platform development. You'll work on problems/projects of diverse complexity and scope.


Designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs, and unit-tests software for new products and enhancements for existing products in HP Storage Division's products. Development will be based on the Linux Operating System at the systems level, including user-mode utilities, libraries, middleware, kernel modules, and the Linux kernel.

Designs and implements software components of engineering solutions for products, systems, software, and solutions based on established principles, in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.

Contributes as a key team member by participating in technical discussions in all aspects of the project with other members including design meetings and reviews of designs and code.

Collaborates with other engineering groups, and with internal and/or outside development partners as required to successfully develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions.

Collaborates and communicates with internal and/or outsourced development partners on engineering design and development.

Develops new ideas and concepts, creates demonstrations, prototypes, and other evaluations, and advances them through HP's processes for developing and protecting intellectual property.
Knowledge and Skills:

Development capability for systems software development in C for Linux.

Familiarity with the internal architecture of Linux.

Knowledge of computer systems architecture and the role storages plays in it.

Familiarity with TCP/IP networking. Familiarity with sockets programming a plus.

Initial understanding of storage structures (block, file system, and object storage concepts).

Understanding abstract virtualization concepts and uses.

Some previous experience developing software for Linux at the systems level is required. Strong Linux skills are desirable. Experience building and running Linux is a plus.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.

Ability to effectively communicate regarding designs and implementations, proposals for new ideas, and discussions management. Good presentation skills is desirable.

Ability to work effectively with known and new people utilizing interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a team environment and yet be goal oriented and a self-starter with minimum supervision required.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills and ability to think creatively on complex issues.

Ability to design, develop and improve software tools, processes and components to reduce overhead and improve quality.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
