Job Description

HP Inc is currently seeking a highly qualified, self-motivated researcher for a summer intern position to work on protein and enzyme stabilization in San Diego. The duration of internship is 10-12 weeks.

Job description

The research project is focused on research and development of novel strategies to retain protein and enzyme function under storage. The project will consist of experimental biochemical bench work and chemical synthesis of materials where necessary. The work will leverage the researcher's knowledge of; protein structure and function, molecular or polymeric synthesis, as well as, intramolecular interactions between proteins and chemical additives. The researcher will then optimize these formulations, materials, and interactions to provide a robust solution for retaining protein and enzyme function when subjected to elevated temperatures, as well as, when dried and reconstituted.

The candidate must be a student in biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, bioengineering, or equivalent. The candidate will have extensive experience running immunoassays, particularly ELISA, as well as, in optimizing additives for lyophilization and reconstitution of proteins. Knowledge of common spectroscopic and analytical techniques to measure protein stability, purity, etc. are desired (e.g., DLS, HPLC, DSC, ITC, CD, etc). The candidate must have excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to independently generate creative solutions to research problems. Finally, a good understanding of polymer or organic chemistry, surface chemistry, and colloidal science would be beneficial for this position.

Desired qualifications

3+ yr of chemical, bio-chemical, or molecular biology laboratory experience

2+ yr in protein stability characterization and optimization

1+ yr experience in polymer chemistry, colloidal science, surface chemistry and surface functionalization.
