The award-winning HP Industrial Design Team (Consumer Products) has one Product Design Internship opening at our studio in Houston, TX. We are searching for a passionate individual with great creative skills, talent and imagination, to work closely with, and report directly to, the Design Manager of Innovation, Advanced Concepts & Strategy. The Design Innovation team's main mission is to help HP Inc. define the exciting future of computing. NOTE: this is an ID internship opportunity. This is not a UX Researcher or Design Strategist position.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic creative team that operates like a consultancy within HP Inc. Our interns are treated as full time designers. We offer learning, objective and timely feedback, mentoring. You will also be given the opportunity to communicate and collaborate with other HP Inc. teams and organizations, depending on the project. * build your understanding of HP's history, our core portfolios, businesses, markets, and especially, our core strengths and weaknesses
* track global macro- and micro-trends, emerging and incubating technologies, and understand how they will influence HP's business
* identify current and future users, their needs, pain points, and generate ideas to help address these problems
* conceptualize advanced design ideas: new ways to do things; new products; new form factors; new non-existent experiences
* help HP create and define the exciting future of computing
* safe-guard patent-able inventions by submitting disclosures on behalf of HP Inc, with clear visuals and narrative
* be a great storyteller: tell exciting stories that inspire the ID team, and other HP multidisciplinary teams


* Keen eye for detail, good sense of balance, good visual taste, design thinking
* Great sketching and visualization skills (both analogue, on paper, and digital, on screen using Wacom tablet or equivalent)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills (mastery of the English language preferred), good presentation skills
* Good balance of aesthetic sensitivity and mechanical aptitude, good understanding of design principles and theories
* Ability to analyze, research, identify, sort, document, keep organized, quickly solve problems
* Good proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially for presentation, email, calendar / time management (MS PowerPoint and MS Outlook)
* Fluent in 2D drawing and photoreal rendering software (Illustrator, and Photoshop)
* Great 3D CAD sculpting and surfacing skills (Solid Works or Rhino preferred; Pro-E also acceptable). The 3D CAD data will often be used to create high quality, expensive appearance models, therefore it must be well executed
* Great 3D photoreal rendering skills (Keyshot preferred)
* Ability to correctly create, assign and control colors, materials, textures, lighting, environments, angles of view, and perspective as appropriate for products of different sizes, scale, proportions, etc.
* Ability to create storyboards, visualizing human-centric stories, illustrating the high-level product ideas in a simple yet captivating way.
* Ability to create and edit short dynamic product animation videos is also strongly preferred (in Adobe Premiere and After Effects)
* Open mind, thirst to learn, passion to explore new things - this is of crucial importance
* Team player attitude, self-motivation, professionalism, patience, good inter-personal skills.
* Willingness to receive constructive feedback, accept design critique and undergo mentoring by the HP management team
* Openness to being challenged to invent and experiment, and to go above and beyond.


Student must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate design program To satisfy DOL rules, all candidates must have a valid US labor authorization
