The Sr. Counselor is a licensed mental health professional who exercises discretion and independent judgment to provide appropriate information, coaching, training, and education to military families and service members on issues concerning children and adolescents (ages 0-18). Direct, non-clinical services to children and adolescents ages 2-18 are also provided by the Sr. Counselor.The Sr. Counselor provides face-to-face non-clinical problem solving counseling to families and makes appropriate referrals and warm transfers to military and community resources according to the needs of families and service members.The Sr. Counselor coordinates commander preferences and priorities for resource deployment on the installation and in local military schools. The Sr. Counselor arranges for installation access for a team of local CYB Counselors and provides mentoring and general guidance to CYB Counselors on compliance with installation military protocol.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Reaches out to families with children to conduct non-medical needs assessments and provides supportive, non-medical counseling services to families/parents, such as parenting and child development education (ages 0-18), suggestions for behavioral interventions, non-medical counseling, recommendations for referrals and other services as appropriate, etc. Provides age appropriate activities-based programs to young children and adolescents on topics such as identifying feelings, problem solving, bullying, conflict resolution, self-esteem, coping with deployment and reunification, sibling/parental relationships, anger and time management, separation from parent(s), divorce, health and wellness/self care, etc.Facilitates psycho-educational discussion groups for older children and adolescents.Provide consultations, trainings and educational presentations/workshops for parents, school staff, child-care professionals, and other community groups on topics such as child development, behavior management, burnout and self-care, effects of deployment and reunification on children and youth, recognizing behavioral indicators of stress in children and youth, etc., including the following activities:Provides feedback on outreach efforts and tracks services performed and referrals made.Advises on behavioral and psychotherapeutic training and education programs and materials requested by military personnel and commanders. Responds to ever-changing operations tempo and needs of military children and youth in the community by processing commander requests and advising on scope of practice, content and compliance with program guidelines. Completes and submits all required documentation.Evenings and weekends required.Briefs senior members of the military command on behalf of a team of local CYB Counselors and serves as the single point of contact for disseminating and communicating commander priorities.Arranges for base access for a team of CYB counselors and addresses transition issues occurring among Counselors who rotate on assignments, advising on the current status of installation military protocol. Other duties as assigned.
- Master's Degree in clinically relevant field from accredited university required
Possess and maintain a full license to practice independently at the Master's or Doctorate level as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage Family Therapist or Psychologist without restrictions or supervision (i.e. LCSW, LISW, MFT, LPC, etc.) Some assignments may require a full license to practice independently in the state where the assignment is located.

Minimum two years post-license experience working with families and children requiredExperience with groups of young children and adolescents in clinical or school settingExperience providing activities based psycho-educational programs to children and adolescentsSignificant Experience preparing and presenting educational and informational presentationsAt least 18 months working with the MFLC program as a CYB Counselor requiredSix months experience as a CYB school counselor preferredAbility to pass additional criminal history background checks required for performance in military schoolsA direct association with the military is preferred, but not required

- Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment, i.e. being able to process the requests of a brigade commander type and to explain what is in scope or out of scope of the contract
- Travel between work sites may be required
