This Assistant General Counsel position is responsible for providing legal advice, support, coordination and guidance on complex legal matters relating to corporate governance, subsidiary operations, and financial, insurance, and healthcare licensing and regulations applicable to managed health care. This position shall also be responsible for providing legal advice, support, coordination and guidance on mergers, acquisitions, investments, financings, and other strategic corporate transactions. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and a creative, strategic thinker with excellent judgment and strong background in corporate law. Substantive experience in managed health care or insurance industry a plus.


* Law degree from accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois (or eligible for admission as in-house counsel).
* At least 5 years of experience as a practicing corporate attorney in a law firm or corporate legal department.
* Demonstrated ability to function as a self-starter and value-add contributor in a fast-paced practice.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver creative, business-focused solutions and/or alternatives to complex matters.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated commitment to operating in a strong team environment, and working collaboratively on cross functional legal and business teams.
* Highly developed risk assessment and decision making skills and abilities, including the ability to think strategically on legal and business issues to deliver quality and timely legal advice and services to mitigate risk and provide proactive business counsel.
* Excellent time management and organizational skills, along with ability to manage shifting priorities and demands.
