Job Description


The Certified Pharmacy Technician under supervision and direction of the Director, Clinical Pharmacists, Supervisors and Managers fills orders for pharmaceuticals and performs related duties. Assists a licensed Pharmacist in the preparation of medications as directed and in accordance with state or federal Pharmacy Laws. Provides professional, courteous and efficient customer service to Pharmacy customers in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization and the code of conduct of HCA. Employee will recognize the population specific needs of all patients.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Education and Training Experience Required

* High school diploma or GED
* Graduate of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician program preferred.
* Attention to detail, accuracy and client relation skills required.
* Minimum of three years technician experience preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Current Pharmacy Technician Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
* Current Pharmacy Technician Registration issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP)
* IV Certification required.
* NOTE: When not under the supervision of a pharmacist preceptor, a pharmacist intern may function as a Pharmacy Technician and perform all the duties of a Pharmacy technician without registering as a pharmacy technician provided the pharmacist intern:

A. Is registered with the board as a pharmacist intern

B. Is under the direct supervision of a pharmacist

C. Has completed the Pharmacy's on-site training program

D. Has completed the training required for pharmacist in ~291.133 of this title if the pharmacist-intern is involved in compounding sterile preparations and..

E. is not counted as a pharmacy tech in the ratio of pharmacist to pharmacy technicians. The ratio of Pharmacists to Pharmacy interns shall be 1:1 when preforming pharmacy technician duties.
