Position Summary:

Administers treatment, modalitiesand physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, following theevaluation of the patient by the physical therapist. The PTA assists withrestoration and maximizing the patient's level of functioning, while learningto live within the limits of their capabilities. The PTA participates inperformance improvement initiatives, adheres to departmental budgetaryguidelines and ensures that patient charges are entered promptly andaccurately. Performs other duties asdelegated by the staff therapist or Rehabilitation Services Director.Participates in departmental equipment training, hospital and departmentinfection control, fire and safety education and programs. Performs otherduties as assigned.


Providesappropriate input into the development of treatment plans in consideration ofpatient diagnosis and age.

Demonstratesknowledge of treatment modalities and utilizes a wide variety of treatmenttechniques to achieve patient goals under the supervision of the stafftherapist.

Usesage-specific guidelines to adapt treatment to meet the needs of pediatric,adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Communicateswith staff therapist the need for re-evaluation when there is a change inpatient status.

Providesinput to modify treatment goals as indicated.

Givesinput regarding involvement of patient and family on the formation of thetreatment plan.

Provideseducation to the patient and family and assesses effectiveness.

Treatspatients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial,cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.

10. Takesteps to ensure the safety and continuity of patient care.

11. Communicates/consultswith physician regarding patient's progress. Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate to facilitate patientprogress.

12. Documentationis accurate, timely and meets current standards and policies.

13. Assistsin ordering and maintaining adequate level of supplies and assures equipment isreadily available.\

14. Attendsdepartmental staff meetings. Participatesand assists with orientation and in-service training for department staff. Shares knowledge and expertise; mentorsstudents.

15. Maintainsproductivity expectations. Looks foropportunities to maximize productivity to assist with meeting targets.

16. Identifiesown learning needs and sets goals for self-development.

17. Demonstratesan ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.

18. Consistentlydemonstrates positive team behaviors, which serves as a model for others andfacilitates teamwork.

19. Maintainscompetency as per standards, state and national requirements.

20. Performschart audits as required by department to help ensure compliance with standardsand regulations.

21. Maintainscurrent knowledge of hospital policy, JCAHO, state, federal and otherregulatory requirements as applicable for position.



Associates Degree as a Physical TherapistAssistant from an accredited college or university


Holds a current certificate as a PhysicalTherapist Assistant. Current BCLS (CPR)certificate.

Experience: Previous experience in a rehabsetting desirable.
