Digital Technology & Privacy Attorney


Hasbro is looking for an attorney with 4 to 7 years of specialized privacy and technology and other commercial transactions experience who would like to work in a fast-paced, collegial environment for one of the world's leading branded-play companies. This position will be part of the Hasbro Legal Department's digital technology and privacy practice group and also will support two of Hasbro's subsidiaries, Wizards of the Coast and Backflip Studios.

The successful candidate will have strong experience in software development, publishing and licensing transactions, a robust background in data privacy and security, and experience counseling business clients on a variety of commercial legal issues, including those pertaining to the development, publishing and marketing of physical and digital products (such as mobile apps, videogames, websites, and tabletop games). The successful candidate will also possess superior analytical and organizational abilities, provide creative and pragmatic problem-solving approaches to business issues, and have an enthusiasm for keeping abreast of new technologies. Strong interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, a positive mindset, and the ability to collaborate with in-house clients, including senior management, in a high-energy, team-oriented environment are also a must. Being a gamer is also a plus!


• Negotiate and draft a variety of complex agreements for websites, mobile apps, and other digital products and services, including development agreements, technology acquisition agreements, and technology licenses.
• Negotiate and draft a variety of domestic and international marketing and promotional agreements, influencer agreements, rights clearances, permissions to use, content and merchandise distribution agreements and work-for-hire agreements.
• Counsel clients on a broad range of marketing and promotional matters including emerging issues in social media, packaging, contests, sweepstakes and other promotions .
• Counsel clients on a broad range of transactional matters, including software, web, and mobile app development issues, technology acquisition issues, and IP usage and clearances.
• Perform review of marketing materials for websites, mobile apps, and other digital products and services to ensure compliance with applicable digital marketing and advertising laws and guidelines.
• Perform privacy impact and compliance assessments for digital products and services and draft privacy policies, terms of use, and other required documents for such products and services.
• Counsel clients on a broad range of compliance and regulatory issues, including data collection, analytics, and other data privacy and security matters.
• Develop and implement digital product/service and privacy compliance policies and best practices across business units.
• Work directly with senior management in connection with legal issues and anticipate follow-up needs.
• Partner with clients to proactively identify and further business strategies in transactions.
• Provide education and training on relevant legal topics for business clients and legal colleagues.
• Moderate travel (primarily domestic) will be required.


Education and Training Required:
• J.D. from an accredited law school, excellent academic credentials, and bar membership in good standing.
• CIPP/US or other privacy certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
• 4-7 years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house law department, preferably in the software/technology/digital industry.

Key Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to negotiate and draft a variety of complex agreements for websites, mobile apps, and other digital products and services, including development agreements, publishing agreements, technology acquisition agreements, and technology licenses .
• Strong understanding of technology and analytics, with experience in digital gaming, mobile app and website development and analytics preferred, and the ability to counsel software and/or technology development business units on legal issues using a collaborative and pragmatic outcome-oriented approach.
• Understanding of intellectual property, especially copyright and trademark laws and related legal issues.
• Understanding of digital marketing and advertising laws and guidelines, including the FTC Act, the FTC's .com Disclosures, and the DAA Guidelines
• Ability to draft end user license agreements and privacy policies for digital products.
• Strong expertise in U.S. federal and state privacy and data security laws and regulations; experience with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act preferred, and the ability to counsel business units on data privacy and security issues using a collaborative and pragmatic outcome-oriented approach. International privacy and data security knowledge a significant plus.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
• Outstanding organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize a substantial and diverse workload and complete tasks within deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively with team members from different disciplines and to interact well with members of senior management.
• Experience with e-commerce, user generated content, digital games or esports a plus.
• Experience dealing with domestic and international sales and competition issues and experience in negotiating and drafting complex domestic and international commercial transactions preferred.
• Enthusiasm for seeking out and learning new technologies and implementing knowledge-sharing practices.
