Job Description

Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Harris-Stowes beautiful campus is minutes from the renown Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park and other cultural and educational institutions. Harris-Stowes diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the St. Louis region.

Summary:

The College of Education seeks applications for adjunct professors. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses using best practices and innovative instructional strategies within the College of Education in the program of Elementary.

Applicants should possess knowledge in the area of standards, planning, evaluation and assessment in Education. In addition, this individual will assist in the recruitment and retention of education majors.

The successful candidate will also possess the dispositions of professionalism, competence, reflection, and the ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and community partners. This individual must be a team player and adhere to policy, procedures and timelines.

Principle Duties/Responsibilities:

* Maintains course syllabi and provides each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester.
* Prepares and delivers lectures, leads discussions, and performs other activities which are related to and meet course requirements.
* Conducts appropriate evaluations of students performances and assigns grades on the basis of such evaluations
* Maintains records of students grades and attendance according to University requirements.
* Provides access to students through regular hours and involvement on campus.
* Participates in the development and revision of course content, textbook/ equipment selection, instructional materials, and teaching assignment/ scheduling.
* Provides academic and career advisement and assistance to students as appropriate.
* Maintains professional skills and subject expertise through study and involvement in professional organizations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

* A minimum of an earned graduate degree from an accredited higher education institution
* A minimum of 18 credit hours in the subject field at the graduate level.
* Experience in teaching discipline.

Other Required Skills and Abilities:

* Strong understanding of the pedagogies of University level teaching, particularly for the first generation University students.
* Good knowledge of principles and theory of teaching field.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and University community.
