Job Description

Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Harris-Stowes beautiful campus is minutes from the renown Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park and other cultural and educational institutions. Harris-Stowes diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the St. Louis region.

The College of Education seeks applications for adjunct professors for early childhood education. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching courses in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Early Literacy content embedded in Assessment, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Applicants should possess knowledge in the area of Common Core State Standards, Evaluation, and Assessment in Education. In addition, this individual will assist in the recruitment and advising of early childhood education majors.

Candidates must also possess strong verbal and written skills that will assist the unit in its ongoing accreditation, data collection and reporting processes. The successful candidate will also be expected to supervise undergraduate student teacher candidates; pursue a focused area of research and scholarship that culminates in publications, professional presentations, and submission of grant proposals; hold active membership in relevant professional associations/organizations; serve on committees; and participate in official activities at the department, college and university levels.

The successful candidate will also possess the dispositions of professionalism, competence, reflection, and the ability to work with diverse populations of students, faculty, and community partners. This individual must be a team player and adhere to policy, procedures and timelines.

A PhD/EdD in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or related area, from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidate must have at least 18 credits in early childhood education. Candidates who have teacher certification and at least five years of experience teaching in the P-12 setting, at the college/university level, as well as experience teaching online courses, are preferred. Candidates must be prepared to teach day as well as evening and weekend classes.
