Job Summary

The Principal Engineer, Chassis Systems is an experienced expert, able to go deep and lead Harley-Davidson by creating and updating the vision and plans for Suspension, Tires, Wheels and Braking Systems. They partner internally and externally to develop future system architectures and technologies for the next generations of industry-leading Harley-Davidson motorcycles. This position reports to the Group Chief Engineer of Advanced Engineering and is responsible to:

• Partner with key stakeholders to drive alignment on future state, developing and executing cross-functional plans for industry-leading system architectures (aesthetically appealing, high quality, high performance, lightweight, low cost, fast to market)

• Build relationships with strategic suppliers' key technical leaders to influence their development focus and help ensure H-D's early access to high-impact technologies and designs

• Monitor and understand competitive activity through research, competitive patent monitoring and other means

• Stay current on relevant developments in the power sports, auto and other related industries (websites, journals, conferences, consortiums)

• Mentor and coach others throughout the product development organization

• Engage in most impactful Harley-Davidson production motorcycle projects in the Project Strategy, Predevelopment and early Execution phases to educate, learn, guide, and ensure alignment with the long-term system vision

• Provide expert guidance and technical support for the most critical current product issues (led by Current Product Engineering, Platform Delivery or System Delivery teams)

• Ongoing personal development to build leadership, technical and interpersonal skills for maximum contribution

Education Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required

• Master's Degree is preferred (technical or MBA)

Experience Required

• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in related technical field

Expected Experience & Capabilities:

• Track record of developing and delivering a wide variety of Chassis Systems designs to production

• Strong understanding of the underlying physics and tools to optimize, design, verify and validate motorcycle, power sports or automotive Chassis Systems, including associated control systems

• Extensive experience with varied manufacturing processes in Chassis Systems production

• Demonstrated experience leading or strongly influencing cross-functional teams to achieve desired results

• Project management capabilities that have delivered robust planning and execution of multiple projects

• Industry publications or other recognition is desired (conference or journal publications, industry group leadership roles, speaking engagements, etc.)
