Job Summary

This Engineering position will be held accountable for delivering the following:

• Deliver base engine performance for programs (compression ratio, port flow, combustion chamber, valve events) following the H-D product development process.

• Lead engine valvetrain validation activities (motored and fired testing).

• Lead in-cylinder combustion testing and analysis (cylinder pressure, combustion, heat transfer, wall wetting).

• Define spark plug heat range.

• Lead NVH intake/exhaust system performance and validation to the product development process requirements.

• Deliver spark and fuel maps for calibrations.

• Lead benchmarking of competitive performance technologies.

• Lead process and guideline development for performance development.

• Support 1-D modeling of combustion system

• Support the development of cam timing and event selection

Education Required
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience Required
Successful candidates will have 3 years of engineering experience. Preferred candidates will have exposure to the following:

Data acquisition systems and techniques

• Demonstrates understanding of data acquisition systems and techniques through successful execution of testing projects. Can develop basic testing strategies for powertrain and/or vehicle systems. Track record of consistently delivering quality decision ready data that meets customer expectations.

Engine performance development

• Strong knowledge in the fundamentals of performance development of powertrains. Has consistent track record of delivering projects to meet marketing specifications. Understands and can support the development of camshaft events and timing, cylinder head ports, compression ratio, chamber design, induction module, injectors, intake and exhaust components. Develops and documents processes used by others to reduce development time in performance development. Experience with simulation tools such as GT-Power.

Powertrain fuel preparation and simulation

• Basic understanding of engine thermodynamics (power, wave dynamics tuning), heat transfer, combustion and acoustics). Can perform basic optimization of cam specifications, centerlines, ports.

Engine calibration

• Has a working knowledge of engine calibration tools (such as ATI Vision). Can demonstrate an understanding of spark and fuel control to deliver performance and emissions objectives.

Analysis of test results to provide decision ready information

• Has developed tools to efficiently reduce & summarize test data in charts, plots, and diagrams for purposes of design analysis. Has analyzed test data in both time and frequency domain. Regularly provides error bounds, statistical analysis, and/or annotation to test results.
