SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, this position provides academic advisement and support for new and continuing adult students throughout their academic program. This position is responsible for serving as a liaison between the student and the institution with regard to university policies and procedures. Must be able to work a varied work schedule to accommodate the needs of the adult student.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Builds positive, supportive relationships with students to facilitate retention and persistence to degree completion. Conducts undergraduate and graduate academic advisement in order to: a) advise students of degree completion requirements; b) review with students the various degree completion options and assist students in preparing a degree completion plan; c) provide general student services and academic support information. Requires a complete understanding of program requirements, available courses, national standardized exams, portfolios, and other options.

* Acts as a liaison between the school and the students with respect to degree options, requirements and progress, and also provides students with access to information on school policy, practices and rules.
* Ensures new students are oriented to university policies and services. This includes coordinating and leading student orientation for new cohorts.
* Coordinates elective and supplemental curriculum information.
* Performs graduation reviews by assessing audit reports to determine and ensure that students have fulfilled all degree requirements necessary to complete their degree, following established guidelines and procedures.
* Responds in a timely manner (no more than 1 business day) to individual student problems, concerns, and questions.
* Ensures timely and accurate data entry and management is entered into necessary university systems.
* Assists in the preparation of adult studies calendars to ensure appropriate courses are offered and students are being correctly placed. Monitors cohort size and notifies appropriate person to ensure operational effectiveness.
* Attend and assist with university events, such as graduation, University assembly, and other required events.
* Participate in development, evaluation, and implementation of policies and procedures as appropriate.
* Other job related duties may be assigned.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience

A Master's degree in psychology, counseling, student development, business, education, or related field preferred. Experience working with adult learners in undergraduate and graduate accelerated degree programs, online learning environments, and degree completion programs.

Technical Skills

Must be proficient in Microsoft-office suite and student database management systems preferred.

Language Skills

Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to interact and communicate effectively with students and adult program personnel with regard to GMercyU policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to work with statistical information.

Reasoning Ability

Must be results oriented and able to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple activities.

Interpersonal Skills

The ability to communicate effectively, prioritize work flow, work well with minimum supervision, and accept responsibility for total task completion is required.
