Gurtin Municipal Bond Management, LLC is seeking a Microsoft SQL Database Developer to join its growing internal software development team. Gurtin Municipal Bond Management is a best-in-class, investment management firm that is technology-centric and research driven. Gurtin specializes in the municipal asset class with over $14B AUM with offices in San Diego and Chicago. This specific role will be engaged with database development, business intelligence and data integrations in a Microsoft SQL Server 2014/2016 environment.  The Microsoft SQL Database Developer, Associate is responsible for the entire life cycle of development including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and ongoing improvements.  This is a unique opportunity for a database developer with the right mix of innovation, knowledge, intellectual curiosity and drive to have a significant impact on the business.

Principal Duties and Essential Functions:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Firm's Business Intelligence and data systems
  • Work as part of a team to contribute to the design, development and management of various proprietary databases and applications
  • Design and develop reports in SSRS
  • Responsible for the production of client reports and ad-hoc data requests
  • Develop and manage data integrations between internal and external systems
  • Will be given opportunities to work on special projects involving technologies such as data warehousing, machine learning and data analytics
  • Assist with DBA in management, maintenance, and performance tuning of the firm's databases
  • Work with business users to define requirements, and help determine how reporting tools and features will be built

Requirements/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL Server 2008 or higher
  • Possess a solid foundation in SQL Server database development and reporting
  • Ability to write advanced T-SQL queries, views, stored procedures, functions and CTEs.
  • Experience developing dynamic reports in SQL Reporting Services (SSRS)
  • Create data integration and ETL processes in SQL Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Ability to work independently or with a team, plan work, and handle multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Motivated by and enjoys solving business problems and seeing immediate impact on business users
  • Demonstrate great attention to detail and is able to meet deadlines consistently and efficiently, while managing multiple efforts simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with business intelligence tools such as SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and Power BI.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and multidimensional modeling
  • Familiar with DAX expressions
  • Familiar with C# programming
  • Familiar with Machine Learning and data analysis in R or Python
  • Background in Finance

Physical Requirements:

  • This job requires employee to sit for approximately 6-7 hours a day and use a keyboard and mouse for repetitive motion. 
  • There will be <15 lbs. to lift, push, or pull on this job.

Compensation: Starting base salary range is commensurate with experience.  Bonus is based on performance.
