We are looking to hire an experienced Construction Manager to help lead an exciting new $300 million dollar project we are undertaking at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This project is part of LAX's Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) which will lessen traffic around the airport by providing passengers and employees additional transportation options to access airport facilities. Strong candidates must be driven, enthusiastic and want to establish themselves with a stable and growing company.


This is a high level position responsible for the overall estimating/construction efficiency, financial performance, reporting/monitoring and intercompany teambuilding/collaboration within a multi-year, design build Griffith Company Joint Venture. The Construction Manager role is a highly demanding position requiring mastery of a diverse and dynamic skill set including but not limited to: an intimate understanding of construction/conceptual estimating, project management, owner relations/negotiations, labor relations/negotiations, design, surveying and construction means and methodology for all aspects of the construction scope of the subject project. Also essential to the success of this position is a refined ability to build and maintain relationships, assemble and develop high performing teams, an instinctive commitment to ethics, a solid foundation in the Griffith Way and an unwavering pledge to safety. This individual will be responsible for rapidly assembling multiple high performing teams comprised of both internal and external assets, managing the team's morals and performance throughout the duration of the project and finally, establishing goals and measuring metrics to ensure their success. The person filling this role will be of the caliber and possess the skill sets to easily transition to or from a Chief Estimator, Senior Project Manager and or Assistant Division / Division Manager Position. The role is essentially Griffith Company's ambassador in the JV entity; charged with projecting Griffith Company favorably and upholding the company standards to the highest level while providing the necessary managerial oversight to properly manage the inherent risk of the project.

This position reports to the Regional Manager within the geographical boundaries of the project and is subject to all Griffith Company Code of Conduct and policies. While the individual may reside within and identify with the JV entity, they are still a Griffith Company Employee and shall conduct themselves as such.



* Review proposal specifications, drawings, soils reports and existing site conditions to determine scope of work.
* Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks and investigative opportunities.
* Oversee the good faith effort process and communicate the DBE requirements to the estimating team.
* Coordinate bid preparation requirements with Lead Estimators and Contract Administrator.
* Assemble VE opportunities within the project proposal both from a cost, constructability and schedule standpoint and accurately craft the resulting elements into the written proposal.
* Assemble production driven estimates for complex items of work and review the estimates compiled by other estimating team members for completeness / constructability.
* Organize estimating team to prepare bids, select vendors and/or subcontractors.
* Perform risk and contract pursuit management responsibilities as required, and report findings to Regional Chief Estimator, Regional Manager and or JV Project CEO.
* Monitor owner addenda and advise the estimating team of all changes in scope during the pursuit period.
* Review final estimate and apply strategic cost factors, risk contingencies as appropriate.
* Oversee coordination pre-bid RFI's prior to specification cutoff date.
* Continue to perform and lead all functions above through buyout, project execution and closeout.


* Monitor post bid submission dates towards contract procurement.
* Ensure proper project handoff if project is taken over by subsequent CM/Team.
* Monitor actual cost to estimated cost and schedule impacts of the various buyout opportunities.
* Coordinate scope of work with other Griffith Divisions and subcontractors.
* Oversee the drafting of subcontract / purchase order agreements and coordinate subcontract / purchase order administration.
* Prepare budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders and take the lead in developing project schedules.
* Follow awarded contract including estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring material, monitoring progress, cost/budget, revenue, etc or assisting other team members in doing so.
* Take an active role in managing owner relationships and business development for both the JV and Griffith Company.
* While respecting the JV, actively pursue buyout opportunities within the project where Griffith Company can perform to the betterment of the JV and Griffith Company.
* Execute subcontract agreements and purchase orders within the set limits of authority. Fully prepare and present the same to the Regional Manager for amounts beyond your authorized limitations of authority.

Project Execution

* Actively manage project planning, scheduling and coordination of large-scale projects.
* Assemble key personnel for the project both craft and salary.
* Prepare time impact analysis where changes or delays occur.
* Establish project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards in line with Griffith Company and JV policies.
* Interface with Griffith Company and JV construction personnel to ensure project is constructed in accordance with designs, budgets and schedules to provide maximum quality, safety and profitability including working with third parties, client representatives, A/E representatives, subcontractors and materials providers.
* Lead in reviewing and negotiating contracts and change orders; liaise with executive management as appropriate based on approval authority as set by the Regional Manager.
* Provide positive safety and quality control management to the project.
* Prepare claims and present for review to the Regional Manager.
* Draft and or review all correspondence prepared by project team prior to submission to the owner. Prepare and update the correspondence log for the Regional Manager's review.
* Maintain accurate forecasting and management of budgets, including reporting as set by the Regional Manager.
* Manage subcontractors, Sub-Districts and project team as directed by the Regional Manager.
* Provide support and technical advice to project personnel to resolve problems proactively.
* Oversee document control and coordination of subcontractors.
* Anticipate project needs with sufficient lead-time to avoid delay of production.
* Take an active role in managing owner relationships and business development.
* Upon project completion, conduct debriefing with estimating, engineering and production teams to discuss positive and negative aspects of the project.
* While respecting the JV actively pursue construction and material opportunities within the project where Griffith Company can perform to the betterment of the JV and Griffith Company.

General Requirements

* Mentor Estimators, Junior Estimators, Project Engineers, Project Managers and Interns as assigned.
* Respect and preserve the working relationships in the home districts market with owners, agencies, subcontractors and vendors.
* Prepare and present financial, schedule, critical correspondence, claims, safety summary, and HR needs and capacity to the Regional Manager as directed at the frequency requested.
* Be prepared to report out on the items above to the management group if directed to do so.
* Provide proper training and education to key construction personnel on new tools, policies & procedures related to estimating, construction, scheduling etc. (i.e. B2W, Build 2 Win, P6 etc.)
* Demonstrate through regular involvement and leadership Griffith Company's commitment to create a total safety culture in all areas of our business including joint ventures.
* Advocate and utilize Company set standards and tool box to ensure consistency and best practices are used.
* Ensure all company, client and project interactions, procedures and standards adhere to Griffith Company's core values.
* Use production and financial reports to influence, facilitate and hold accountable performance standards of the JV construction personnel. Maintain project information and documentation to track project status (POC, Project Forecasts, Daily/Weekly cost reporting etc.)
* Other duties as assigned.


* Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field of study. Alternatively relevant field experience supplemented with combinations of technical training may suffice. Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is desirable.


* Minimum 15 years of Structures and or Earthwork estimating and project management for heavy civil projects. (Highway, Rail, Underground, Paving, Materials Manufacturing, Bridge and Airport infrastructure all requirements dependent on the subject project)
* Must have fulfilled all requirements under Level 3 Senior Project Manager and Level 3 Senior Estimator
* Proven experience in people management
* Proven experience in strategic planning
* Proven experience in risk management
* Must hold at a minimum CSWI and QSP, QSD and / or registration as a Professional Civil Engineer is desirable


* Proficient in understanding staging/phasing and project scope
* Must have a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills
* Must have high attention to detail
* Must have the ability to multi-task and manage a team
* Excellent writing, presentation, and computer skills
* Demonstration of a thorough knowledge of company procedures, estimating techniques, all engineering disciplines, cost control systems and accounts required.
* Must master Bid2Win Estimating software.
* Must master Blue Beam, Agtek and Sketch up
* Must master interpreting plans and specifications
* Must master the process of performing and interpreting take-offs.
* Must have a thorough understanding of time impact analysis, time related overhead and liquidated damages subject to the specific project
* Must be thoroughly familiar with Contract Accounting
* Must have an intimate understanding of the project critical path and establish a methodology for tracking delays
* Must master P6, Sure Trak and MS Project.
* Must have a valid driver's license
