Job Description

W.W. Grainger, Inc. is a business-to-business distributor of products used to maintain, repair and operate facilities. Approximately 3 million businesses and institutions worldwide rely on Grainger for products such as safety gloves, ladders, motors and janitorial supplies, along with services like inventory management and technical support. The strategy and operations leader will lead several critical work streams that improve the productivity and effectiveness of the Talent Acquisition department: vendor management, process and standards, technology, metrics and capacity planning.


This role will own the relationship with external partners and will insure we are maximizing service level agreements and achieving the appropriate cost per hire.


The role will partner cross functionally within TA, HR and Grainger to drive change, improve candidate experience and TA team member engagement.


Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Stays current on key industry trends and serves as key advisor to Vice President Global Talent Acquisition, Inclusion & Diversity and Team Member Experience on best in class talent acquisition strategies.
  • Standardize recruitment and operational processes, enterprisewide.
  • Streamline administrative activities for recruitment team and business in addition to providing leadership to Talent Acquisition Specialists
  • Leads the selection and management of third-party vendors with a strong focus on service level delivery and cost.
  • Provide, update and maintain integrated technology platform
  • Deliver consistent metrics and scorecards to measure recruiter and business effectiveness
  • Considers the cost-benefit analysis to for all vendor, process and technology decisions with key focus on continuing to reduce cost/hire.
  • Leads critical projects to reduce waste which will drive continuous integration and improvement
  • Responsible for forecasting and managing the TA Budget.
  • Lead development and implementation of a differentiated employment brand

  • Excellent problem solving and systemic thinking skills- critical analytics/ diagnosis/ prioritization skills.
  • Strong decision making skills and judgment to drive the right impact.
  • Ability to deliver clear verbal and written communication at all levels.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement methodologies and applications. 



  • College degree required.
  • 5 - 7+ years of leadership in Talent Acquisition/HR field.
  • Previous success in influencing without direct authority and leading large initiatives.
  • Previous experience implementing Talent Acquisition technology platforms
  • Previous experience in providing strategic recommendations to business leaders and executives.
  • Leadership role requiring creation and execution of a TA strategies and execution planning.

Work Relationship

  • This position is based out of the Headquarters office in Lake Forest, IL.
  • Very limited travel



  • This leader makes technology and process decisions that directly impact the Talent Acquisition leaders, team members, candidates and hiring managers.
  • Decisions made by this leader have direct impact on cost/hire.
  • This position is directly responsible for selecting and managing relationships with recruitment outsource providers which has a direct impact on our ability to manage cost and effectively hire the roles we outsource to them.
  • The position influences the productivity and engagement of recruiters through technology and process decisions.
