Job Description

The Occupational Therapist will have an integral role implementing a specific evidence based model of practice. They will be working within centres that are situated within communities where there is a high number of vulnerable children. They will work under a broader social inclusion strategy supported by our national social inclusion team. The role will be supporting Echo centre in Harristown. This is a Fixed term contract for 2 years  working on a part time basis 15.2 hours per week.

 

The Occupational Therapist’s role entails working in a trans-disciplinary centre based team in the early learning and care setting. They will be specifically involved in the coaching and mentoring of educators to build their capacity in delivering the Goodstart Occupational Therapy key practices and approach. This includes work on the floor and off the floor in the early learning context in addition to delivering educator training after hours.

The position will have strong external linkages to community supports and services that will best meet the needs of children and families. The occupational therapist will support the centre director in progressing external referrals.   

 

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy
  • Strong understanding of child development (birth - 5 years)
  • Strong understanding of sensory processing theory and the ability to translate this practically through evidence based approaches to educators
  • Ability to influence the environmental context that enhances children learning
  • Understanding of relevant early childhood frameworks and standards
  • Experience working with young children and families, particularly vulnerable children and families
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, communication, negotiation and coaching skills including the ability to consult with relevant staff, teams and professionals to achieve improved outcomes for children and families
  • Ability to document, analyse and report on relevant key performance indicators
  • Maintain a high level of ethical and professional behaviour, including preserving the confidentiality of children, families and educators
  • High level of self-awareness; understanding own strengths and areas for development
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently present information to a diverse group of educators, professionals and parents and/or carers
