Job Responsibilities:
We are looking for a contract employee to join our Contaminated Site Management team in our Calgary or Edmonton office. As an Environmental Technologist, you will be primarily responsible for data collection obtained through fieldwork related to monitoring, investigating, remediating contaminated sites impacted with a wide variety of contaminants utilising various sampling techniques. Fieldwork from time to time may also involve monitoring of remedial systems and involvement with geotechnical, physical hydrogeology, and hazardous material/hygiene programs. It is expected the candidate will be self-motivated, and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities Include:
* Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to self, Golders' clients, employees and the public;
* Identifying and mitigating of potential and existing site hazards;
* Conducting field work associated with soil/groundwater and hazardous material investigations and surveys, soil and groundwater monitoring programs, due diligence programs, property condition assessments, site remediation and remedial systems programs;
* Fieldwork will include but not be limited to the drilling of boreholes, installing monitoring wells, excavating test pits, classifying soil samples, collecting soil/groundwater and hazardous material samples, compiling data, and surveying of sampling locations. Field work may consist of remote or rural locations in natural settings and at times will require non-regular hours including overnights, evening and weekends;
* Field preparation, maintaining excellent field notes and equipment calibration and maintenance;
* Supervision of subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, borehole drilling, groundwater monitoring well installation test pit excavation, and hazardous material abatement.
* Oversight of remedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, abatement programs, waste tracking and progress reporting.
* Filing and management of all project related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation.

Job Requirements:
The preferred candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
* A Technologist diploma from a recognized College in either environmental science, engineering or geology;
* A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work alone or in teams and under regular direction from your direct supervisor;
* 3 - 6 years of experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation;
* Ownership attitude: cares, takes pride in their work, takes ownership of assigned tasks and role;

* Employees actively raise safety issues to the attention of peers, contractors and visitors and assist in seeking resolution to the issues identified
* Communicates clearly and consistently the importance of health and safety and shows appreciation for those who show the right behaviours
* Actively eliminates and controls hazards related to their tasks on a daily basis using the hazard control hierarchy
* A valid driver's license;
* Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling and borehole/monitoring well drilling as well as eligibility for professional certification is considered an asset
