About golden state foods

Golden State Foods is a major distributor and food processor of quality food products for McDonald's. We were there when McDonald's was just beginning and have shared in their success story for over 55 years. Our business success and growth are a result of our dedication to the simple, yet demanding, principles of quality and service. These principles have been our daily motto for more than 56 years. As individuals and as a company, we take great pride in our ability to "deliver the difference." Golden State Foods began delivering the difference in 1947, when we were selling hamburger patties and other supplies to hotels and restaurants in Southern California. In 1955, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, McDonald's founder, Ray Kroc, discovered a successful restaurant operated by the McDonald brothers. Mr. Kroc recognized the opportunity and started a chain of restaurants based on the principles of QSC&V - quality, service, cleanliness and value. Soon, many McDonald's restaurants were opening in the Southern California area, and Golden State Foods began serving them with supplies and food products. By the mid 60's, GSF was serving two dozen McDonald's restaurants, as well as many other diversified customers. We knew right from the start that McDonald's was special. They had a success formula that worked. We saw a winner and decided to stick with them. GSF made a decision to concentrate exclusively on serving McDonald's needs. The year was 1967, and annual sales were eight million dollars. By 1970, sales had risen to 20 million dollars and we had moved our operations to City of Industry, California. McDonald's was growing very quickly and so were their needs. We had to meet those needs to maintain our service commitment. They needed local processing of syrups and sauces to reduce costs, so we invested in the equipment and trained our people. Within six months, we were able to meet their syrup and sauce needs. We also converted our fresh beef patty production to frozen and met their needs with a multi-million dollar patty forming and freezing operation. Today, GSF distributes products to more than 2,900 McDonald's restaurants. Our eleven distribution centers are located in: City of Industry, California; Greensboro, North Carolina; Rochester, New York; Sumner, Washington; Columbia, South Carolina; Phoenix, Arizona; Waipahu, Hawaii; Suffolk, Virginia; Portland, Oregon; Tijuana, Mexico, and Cairo, Egypt. Each of these centers has been designed to meet the specific needs of the restaurants in the area it serves. Our distribution service is not limited to the United States. We also service McDonald's in more than 45 foreign countries. In 1990, GSF helped open the first McDonald's in Russia by establishing the Moscow Food Town. Our information services operations are designing computer systems that track restaurant inventories and automate the entire ordering process. This information makes distribution operations more efficient, helps food processing operations plan production, and provides McDonald's Corporate Offices with up-to-the-minute sales figures. By continuously improving service, we remain competitive and efficient. Our food processing operations include the production of beef patties, syrups, sauces, condiments and bakery goods. In total, our food products are used in one-half of all the McDonald's in the United States. In 1994, GSF made significant advances in the international market. GSF started operations in Egypt and Australia. A combined distribution facility and food processing facility was opened in Cairo, Egypt to supply the first McDonald's restaurants opened in that country. GSF also purchased a produce processing facility near Sydney, Australia to supply McDonald's in Australia and other countries in Southeast Asia. Over the last 56 years, GSF has grown from a small meat company with annual sales of $2 million to a diversified corporation with annual sales in excess of $2 billion.
