Job Description

The Manager of Mechanical Testing, reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, will be a working lead responsible for managing all aspects of the mechanical testing laboratory as well as management of Mechanical Testing Group personnel. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of multiple departments and a drive to ensure that company objectives are met.

This role involves direct management of personnel and requires leading, coaching, and mentoring Test Engineers. Attentiveness to detail in sample preparation, machine preparation, conducting tests, data logging and archiving (including lab notebook upkeep), and sample archiving is critical. Equipment maintenance and calibrations shall be coordinated and performed in accordance with company procedures. At times, preparation and presentation of material to department personnel/management or to other functional groups may be required. The Manager of Mechanical Testing is tasked with ensuring that the department provides the best possible services to customers in Product Development by operating the mechanical test lab in an effective and efficient manner and by meeting business objectives and maintaining compliance with SOP's, quality systems, and applicable regulations or guidelines.

The Manager of Mechanical Testing will work closely with Management, direct reports, Product Development, Regulatory, and Quality groups to ensure cohesive cross-functional communication with respect to mechanical testing and international standards development.

The Manager of Mechanical Testing will serve as one of Globus Medical's representatives in the international standards community with the aim of ensuring that Globus Medical is a participant in the development of new international standards and maintains a pulse on emerging test methods, techniques, technology, and information from within the standards community. This may require occasional travel to conferences or symposiums.

Responsibilities

* Supervise Test Engineers
* Identify opportunities for personnel training and development
* Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for Mechanical Testing
* Ensure adherence to relevant SOP's
* Maintain the highest level of quality in accordance with company policies
* Maintain calibration and maintenance of test equipment
* Develop accurate and complete test protocols for component, sub-component and final assembly testing
* Maintain, develop, implement, and enforce strategies to ensure effective knowledge transfer and retention (KT&R)
* Utilize knowledge and information from all available sources to develop effective and efficient test strategies
* Coordinate with CAD Services for the design of fixtures for testing new and existing products
* Work with in-house prototype shop and outside vendors for manufacturing of fixtures
* Set up and conduct tests of reference devices and new or existing Globus Medical products
* Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives
* Write test summary results with numerical and graphical data
* Write concise and thorough, clear and accurate test protocols and reports
* Maintain photographic documentation of test set-ups and test specimens after test completion
* Play an active role in the international standards community
* Ensure that the Mechanical Test Lab is clean, safe, and well organized
* Adhere to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies. Ensure Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role.
* Represent the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices and socially responsible conduct in all interactions with other employees, customers, suppliers, and other third parties of Globus.

Qualification

* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or related field required.
* Mechanical testing experience preferred
* Proven leadership ability is a must
* Experience with MTS machines preferred
* Knowledge of ASTM Test Standards preferred (especially medical components)
* Ability to work in fast-paced environment. Multi-tasking abilities for a successful job completion
* Well organized, detail oriented, and team player capable of working in a deadline dictated environment
* Ability to adequately represent and reflect company philosophy to customers internal and external
* Proficient in preparation of reports
* Knowledge in CAD is preferred (ProEngineer a plus)
* Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel)
* Strong communication, interpersonal and team skills
* Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical people
* Some experience in the medical device field that may include internship/co-op in the Medical Device Industry is desired
* Ability to assess and solve problems related to emerging technologies and the development of new products
