General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable Unmanned Aircraft Systems and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an entry level FRACAS Engineer in our Engineering Field Support group located in San Diego, CA. With general supervision and with limited review, this position supports the Engineering Field Support department performing FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System) engineering functions. Activities include root cause analysis, investigation, analysis, and development of corrective actions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Determine Root Cause of field failures for unmanned aircraft systems and components. Oversee a team of multi-disciplined engineers throughout the entire failure analysis process and make recommendations to the Failure Review Board (FRB). Determine resolution of UAV system failures and corrective actions in support of the FRACAS program. Coordinate efforts and issue resolution with Engineering, Depot, Manufacturing, Programs, Material Control, and Quality departments. Review of fault isolation and troubleshooting procedures for UAV systems. Develop test procedures. Perform functional testing and troubleshooting of equipment and systems in assigned areas. Obtain and analyze test data. Devise new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems. Maintain FRACAS database, monitor status, track open FRACAS investigations, and generate reports for management and customers. Develop and deliver presentations to management and customers. Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Other duties as required. Job Qualifications Typically requires a bachelors or masters degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and two or more years of engineering experience with a bachelors degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education. Must have a complete understanding of engineering and ability to generate technical reports from findings. A strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and excellent report writing capabilities are required. Must demonstrate extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles. Must have the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must be a self starter. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with others successfully. Must have strong written and oral communications skills, and be comfortable presenting complex technical material to colleagues and customers. Able to work extended hours as required. Must be available for travel when necessary. Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required. Direct experience performing hardware failure investigations desired. Understanding of aircraft structures, flight dynamics, and environmental issues desired. Experience in aircraft systems including avionics, flight control, data link, engine, servos, and mechanical systems desired. Working knowledge of Reliability Analysis and Root Cause Analysis desired. Ability to operate various test equipment desired. Familiarity with Windchill WQS FRACAS or similar database software desired.
