Key Position Details

The Las Vegas Staff Counsel office of GEICO is seeking to hire an experienced paralegal with 5 years of personal injury litigation experience as a Paralegal. Paralegal experience in the State of Nevada is preferred. Experience handling personal injury cases is also preferred. The successful candidate must hold a paralegal certificate.

Primary Position Objective:

Under general supervision, PARTICIPATES in attorney meetings with clients and witnesses for the purpose of discovery and trial preparation, PREPARES draft responses to discovery requests based on client meeting, DRAFTS routine motions and PREPARES other legal documents as needed.

Essential Functions:

REVIEWS file contents, PARTICIPATES in attorney meetings with clients, PREPARES draft discovery responses based on client meetings, COORDINATES their completion and signature by client for filing. PARTICIPATES in attorney meetings with witnesses, CONFIRMS their availability for trial, and ARRANGES subpoenas and transportation as needed for appearance at trial. SUBPOENAS medical records and FOLLOWS UP on receipt of same. May DRAFT letter to Independent Medical Examination doctor requesting review of records and examination of Plaintiff for possible testimony at trial. May REVIEW, ORGANIZE and SUMMARIZE medical records in routine cases. DRAFTS motions as necessary to obtain discovery, to reschedule trials, for summary judgment in agency situations and as requested by attorneys. May PERFORM routine legal research as requested and OBTAINS copies of new legislation and regulations affecting case handling. INTERACTS with Judges, court clerks, plaintiff's attorneys, clients, and other departments to schedule events and resolve problems. MEETS the requirements specified below.

Must be able to, with or without accommodation, perform the essential functions which include, but are not limited to seeing, hearing, typing and speaking. Work activities involve combinations of sitting, walking, kneeling, climbing, pulling, bending, lifting, carrying and standing for extended periods. Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and have strong organization/priority setting skills. Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information. Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Based on jurisdiction, may need to obtain and maintain a notary license. Must have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Must hold a Paralegal Certificate.

Salary and grade will be commensurate with experience.
