Job Description

General

Lead Product Development/Maintenance Specialist - Textile Technology Center, Kimbrell Campus, Belmont.

 

Lead and perform duties related to textile product development including safe set-up, operation, and monitoring of various machines and processes used in yarn/material processing.  Responsible for proper machine set-up, operation, and maintenance, quality material processing per specifications, and documentation as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for performing the duties and responsibilities of the position in a safe manner while demonstrating a knowledge, understanding, and adherence to applicable safety procedures, rules, and expectations, including, but not limited to, as applicable:  basic first aid procedures; evacuation and related procedures; proper lifting techniques; location and/or use of lab safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, safety showers, and ventilation/fume hoods); warning signs and labels; ignition source control; chemical management; preventive maintenance for equipment and machinery; Lockout/Tagout; proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); electrical safety; maintaining good housekeeping; exercising proper dress and hygiene (e.g., avoid loose or dangling clothing, hair and/or jewelry); and controlling contamination (e.g., eating and/or drinking in certain environments). 

2. Schedule and Perform work as assigned in the development of new products through the operation and maintenance of various machinery and equipment for yarn processing.  Document operating procedures and equipment specifications as needed.  

3. Read and follow production work orders, processing instructions, and operation manuals to ensure accurate and quality machine set-up and material processing for a variety of processes including Carding, Drawing, Roving, Spinning, Winding, and Twisting, including testing, as needed.  

4. Responsible for the safe machine set-up, operation, and quality of materials processed or produced for a variety of operations including Carding, Drawing, Roving, Spinning, Winding, and Twisting.  Observe all equipment and materials for quality and production including machine downtime/malfunction, monitoring yarn packages or materials, identifying yarn breaks and making repairs, and doffing packages as needed.
