Garmin's Outdoor Engineering team in Bend, OR, is seeking a full time Design Engineer to design and develop basic analog, digital or RF circuits including simulations, schematics, PCB layout and evaluation. You create. You build. You DESIGN. From building printed circuit board layouts to working with various equipment (multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes and more), you will design and build prototypes, solder and develop your own tests to help us with our ultimate goal - to create products that solve complex problems and make people's lives safer, healthier and more enjoyable. Our entry level Design Engineers are responsible for performing basic schematic design and PCB layout, completing basic troubleshooting and debugging of electronic circuits and/or systems, designing test boards and circuit modifications to test design improvement, and testing circuits designed by other engineers and document the test results. You will also have the opportunity to partner with highly experienced Design Engineers to effectively complete design projects. Design Engineers also: - Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor - May be responsible for planning own technical work - Applies design standards and procedures to implement basic designs - Learns how to use and apply engineering tools relevant for performing the essential functions of this job description - Thoroughly documents work in an organized manner - Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals - Accepts and acts on constructive criticism - Identifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques - Apply Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed Qualified candidates for this role will have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (BSEE, BSCE) from a four-year college or university, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience plus a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge. Candidates for this role should also possess: - Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - Must demonstrate the capability to apply design standards and procedures to develop basic analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation - Must demonstrate the ability to learn how to use and apply engineering tools specific to electrical engineering (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, schematic design and PCB layout programs, etc.) - Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debugging - Must demonstrate proficiency in C programming language - Must demonstrate understanding of embedded systems and driver design Candidates with previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or outdoor products are highly preferred! Passion for hiking, hunting, and/or golfing is also a plus!
