We are currently seeking a Design Engineer for our Salem, Oregon team. Engineers in this position design and develop basic analog, digital and/or RF circuits, equipment, and/or systems in a team oriented environment


Design and develop basic analog, digital or RF circuits including simulations, schematics, PCB layout and evaluation

Perform basic schematic design and PCB layout

Complete basic troubleshooting and debugging of electronic circuits and/or systems

Design test boards and circuit modifications to test design improvements

Test circuits designed by other engineers and document the test results

Partner with more experienced Design Engineers to effectively complete design projects

Communicates status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor

May be responsible for planning own technical work

Applies design standards and procedures to implement basic designs

Learns how to use and apply engineering tools relevant for performing the essential functions of this job description

Thoroughly documents work in an organized manner

Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals

Accepts and acts on constructive criticism

Identifies and resolves defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniques

Apply Garmin's Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeedEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (BSEE, BSCE) from a four-year college or university, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge

Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Must demonstrate the capability to apply design standards and procedures to develop basic analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation

Must demonstrate the ability to learn how to use and apply engineering tools specific to electrical engineering (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, schematic design and PCB layout programs, etc.)

Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debugging

Garmin Cochrane: Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Alberta

Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products
