Garmin AT, located in Salem, OR, is seeking an Aviation Systems Engineer. The role of the Aviation Systems Engineer is to support successful conception, development, and/or application of sophisticated avionics systems including identifying and documenting basic customer and regulatory requirements for existing functionality or interfaces and assessing system compliance with a select set of customer requirements and creating system design/description documentation.

Aviation Systems Engineers will be responsible for these functions:

Identifies and documents technical scope of change in support of small changes to already supported functionality or interfaces

Creates testable system requirements and technical documentation for well-defined functionality, following requirements standards and documented best-practices

Provides technical content for system design/description documentation

Executes a subset of system-level processes, with efficient and accurate hand-offs to/from development teams at the aircraft and sub-system/equipment levels

Will perform bench testing of select interfaces or functionality to verify system operation per requirements.

Communicates status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor

Learns how to use and apply engineering tools relevant for performing the essential functions of this job description.

Thoroughly documents work in an organized manner.

Works collaboratively and professionally in a team environment with other Garmin associates to achieve goals.
Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering, from a four-year college or university, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other qualifications include:

Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge

Has basic knowledge and troubleshooting skills in one or more of the following technical areas:

Systems Integration

System Safety

System Requirements

Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debugging

Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
Preferred candidate will bring the following qualifications:

Previous work or internship experience working on aviation products

Possesses a pilot's license, fixed or rotary wing
