Job Description

Overview

Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutch's pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nation's first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Women's Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. The purpose of this internship is to provide training to students who would like to pursue a career in research. The intern will gain hands-on experience in basic laboratory skills.

Responsibilities

The intern will be trained in a range of skills and techniques, depending on the project assigned. Under the guidance of a mentor, the intern will learn laboratory fundamentals and some of the following skill sets (dependent on lab):

* General lab assay techniques including some basic molecular biology.
* Data analysis and quality control
* Binding assays using Phage DMS methods
* General lab maintenance including work with laboratory equipment, reagent control, and database management

Qualifications

* Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Good communication skills and an interest in learning
* Ability to work in a team
* Good numeracy, literacy and organizational skills
