The Franklin County Board of County Commissioners

Position Title: Entry level

Closing Date: January 11, 2017

Annual Salary $25,000.00

Ideal Candidate:

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

  • Ability to accurately and timely account for disposal collections fees; and prepare and maintain simple records and reports.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees at the landfill and the general public. Performs related work, as required;
  • Ability to effectively communicate laws, ordinances and regulations relating to solid waste disposal at the Central County Landfill.
  • Ability to identify illegal solid waste substance through inspections of vehicle delivering solid waste to the Central County Landfill. May be reassigned in emergency situations.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualification: Graduation from an accredited High School, or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma; or, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job.

Major Job Duties:

  • Monitors the delivery of incoming solid waste to the Franklin County Central Landfill; inspects waste to prevent dumping illegal substances as defined by County, State and Federal laws, ordinances and regulations; and, direct citizens to the proper disposal areas, as follows: Explain applicable solid waste disposal laws, ordinances and regulations to users of the Franklin County Central Landfill.
  • Collect applicable fees for users; records the transaction; maintains various credit account and collection records; prepares daily deposits and collections reports; and prepares various monthly reports relating to the landfill activities.
  • Answers and routes incoming telephone calls to the landfill: performs various administrative functions in support of Department operations.

Minimum Qualifications: Licenses, Certifications And/or Registrations: Valid driver's license.
