Software Developer Intern

Job Status: Paid Internship

FLSA status: Non-Exempt (hourly)

Reports to: Director of IT

Location: Auburn, CA

Travel Required: None

Supervisory Responsibility: No

Work Schedule: M-F, 8am - 5pm

Classification: Administration

Expected Length: 8-10 weeks

SUMMARY:

This opportunity will allow the intern to learn and gain experience identifying, developing, and maintaining our technology solutions. Working closely with other members on the development team, the Software Developer Intern's focus is to gain knowledge and experience identifying solutions that serve the needs of both internal users and the company's customers. This position will work closely with software platforms in the cloud as well as equipment hosted within our own data centers. The Software Developer Intern is responsible to assist in the maintenance of existing software by participating in the development and programming both independently and as a team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assist with the development and maintenance of the company's public facing web page as well as internal websites
* Responsible to ensure all online materials are in line with Flyers image standards
* Participate in meetings with other departments to gather input and feedback to define development specifications throughout the development process
* Assist in the design and execution of specific processes for user acceptance testing to identify issues that need to be addressed prior to companywide rollouts
* Develop instructional documentation for newly implemented software solutions
* Assist in the development and troubleshooting of manual and automated data exchange and import processes
* Develop and maintain company reports using SSRS as well as custom programmed solutions based on user need
* Act as Tier 3 support for reported issues that are not able to be resolved by the front line help desk support team

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Perform specific tasks as assigned by Supervisor
* Identifies problems, gathers data, develops and assesses alternative courses of action
* Communicate effectively with team members in other departments and contractors to develop proper solutions
* Able to handle criticism and feedback and translate that into product/process improvement plans
* Follow all company policies and procedures
* Establishes priorities and a course of action for handling multiple tasks
* Work in a safe manner at all times and report all accidents immediately

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Presently enrolled in coursework in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related technology based field
* Knowledge of MS Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio, MS Visio, IIS8 and 10, Apache HTTP server, and Windows 7 and 10
* Knowledge of HTML 4 and 5 with responsive websites, CSS3, ASP.NET, SSRS, Crystal Reports, JQuery, JavaScript Frameworks, and Web API services
* Excellent multi task organizational and planning abilities
* Strong documentation skills and attention to detail
* Excellent verbal, written, and personal communication skills
* Strong editing and writing skills, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, proofreading and punctuation
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate and prioritize details of a multi-task environment, set deadlines and complete projects accordingly
* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

LANGUAGE and/or COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions as well as procedural manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests and other team members. Ability to communicate effectively with Company personnel using voice mail and e-mail systems. Strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
