Job Description

The Associate Electrical Design Engineer assists in the design development of electrical systems and equipment, for commercial nuclear power generation facilities performing under the direction and supervision of the Lead Electrical Engineer. Designs are completed in compliance with nuclear codes and standards, and NRC regulations. The Associate Electrical Design Engineer must be familiar with NRC design criteria and requirements specific to Civil engineering. Assists in design evaluations and understands the application of nuclear codes and standards and licensing requirements.

- Performs electrical system design evaluations and understand the application of nuclear codes and standards and licensing requirements.

- Prepares electrical systems and equipment design documentation to satisfy project requirements.

- Performs simple to intermediate system studies (e.g., short circuit, load flow, stability, motor starting, harmonics, relay coordination and ground grid).

- Assists in developing area classifications and design documents.

- Assists in Developing electrical design documents.

- Performs electrical calculations such as short circuit, relay coordination, voltage drop, cable de-rating and cable pulling tension.

- Prepares motor schematics and wiring diagrams.

- Provides assistance, as requested, in the areas of schedules, estimates, progress reports, meetings, procurement activities, etc.

- Reviews vendor data and work from other disciplines and reports to the Lead Electrical Engineer.

- Assists with project/client/field, material procurement, permit, and subcontract activities.

- Assists with Internal Audits as needed.

- Must be able to satisfy requirements for fitness for duty and background requirements to obtain a badge at a nuclear plant.

- Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Various levels of environmental conditions including, but not limited to, indoor office workspace, project worksites and vendor/client facilities which may have temporary office space, moving mechanical parts and vibration; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
