Job Description

Summary:

Oversees the activities on the shift. Supervises, coordinates and works along-side production workers, maintenance and the unloading of rail cars and tankards. Focuses on production goals and quality. Ensures safety and cleanliness on the shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, however, other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and establishes work assignments and production sequences to meet production goals taking into account available manpower, raw materials and equipment availability
  • Directs production staff and other resources to execute the production schedule in timely fashion
  • Requisitions materials, supplies, equipment parts, or equipment maintenance
  • Observes work and ensures all work procedures (SOPs) are followed and directs staff to report production and safety issues
  • Collects samples for testing
  • Reviews operator test data for compliance
  • Resolves production issues and meets production goals
  • Addresses safety issues and brings to the attention of the Plant Manager and EH&S Manager
  • Operates equipment and performs other tasks as necessary to meet production requirements
  • Interprets orders and company policies and procedures for staff
  • Confers with management or subordinates to resolve employee problems and complaints
  • Prepares production reports, prepares TPM checklist (Coit), reviews operator reports (Coit) and other data for upper management
  • Recommends or implements measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency
  • Conducts employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures, or assigns employee training to experienced workers
  • Administers Time and Attendance procedures accurately and in a timely manner
  • Makes recommendations for staffing actions, such as cross-training, job rotation, hiring, etc
  • Oversees the cleanliness and orderliness of the work areas, Assigns tasks as necessary during slow periods, cleanouts or shutdowns
  • Is responsible for shift safety; ensures that all safety rules are followed
  • Initiates calls to managers as appropriate to communicate issues or problems that cannot be resolved by on-site personnel
  • Ensures garbage is removed in accordance with company procedures
  • Oversees start-up and shut down of machinery during plant closures
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments

Requirements

Qualifications:

To successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each key responsibility in a satisfactory manner through individual effort or effective and appropriate delegation.

Additionally, the well-qualified candidate will have the following education and experience.

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma, 2-3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment and 2-3 years supervisory experience.
