Job Description

Mechanic II Fleet Services Gypsum, Colorado Fulltime Year-Round Benefits Eligible $22.42-28.03 per hour Performs a variety of skilled and complex duties associated with the repair and maintenance of gasoline, diesel and/or alternate fueled vehicles and equipment including; heavy duty trucks, construction equipment, transit coaches, automotive/light trucks including hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles & other motorized equipment. Three years on-the job experience as a journey level mechanic and valid Class "B" Colorado Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date required.

Example of Duties

  • Performs skilled work in the repair and/or overhaul of automotive and heavy construction equipment including: the repair and overhaul of gasoline, diesel and/or alternate fueled engines, repair of electrical systems including lights, wiring and AC and DC motors; repair of hydraulic, air cooling and pneumatic systems; repair and adjustment of of clutches, transmission, drive train, pumps and brake systems.
  • Uses electronic scanner and laptop computer to diagnose electronic systems. Uses manuals, schematics and other printed or electronic data in the trouble shooting process.
  • Operates gas or arc welding equipment, a variety of hand and small power tools, metal press and/or a metal lathes to repair and/or fabricate parts and tools.
  • Replaces and repairs tube and tubeless tires, on light/heavy trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Performs A, B, C and D preventive maintenance (PM) services; Diagnoses mechanical failures, determines appropriate method of repair and completes repairs in a safe and timely manner.
  • Responds to emergency road service calls for mechanical breakdowns or drive-train failures, diagnoses problem and make appropriate repairs.
  • Uses County computer system (CCG/FASTER Fleet Management System) to prepare work orders, recording labor and parts used on all County equipment repaired.
  • Test drives and performs safety inspections in the shop and in the field on County vehicles and equipment. Perform annual DOT inspections as required.
  • Attends a variety of equipment repair training sessions for continuing education.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area; performs duties in a safe manner; maintains an awareness of others in the work area.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
