Job Description

FIS seeks a senior-level attorney with deep experience advising financial institutions or financial services providers on regulatory and compliance issues related to payment services. This position will take the lead on advising on legal issues related to the merchant acquiring business. Additionally, the attorney will have responsibility for advising on a wide range of laws and regulations including but not limited to payments and money transmission laws and regulations.

The successful candidate will be an expert in consumer financial services laws and regulations, with a proven track record of successfully partnering with senior business leaders, risk management and compliance to achieve business objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility

* Provide legal advice on laws and regulations governing payment systems and merchant acquiring and other card services in all jurisdictions where FIS provides those services.
* Advise the business on legal matters related to money services businesses, including state laws governing money transmission and licensing.
* Review and advise on pending and developing laws and regulations relating to payments, money transmission and emerging payment systems technologies.
* Provide strong thought leadership to senior management on the full range of legal, compliance and regulatory issues impacting payment products and services.
* Partner with the business to evaluate the legal and regulatory risks associated with new products and services.
* Support and advise business leaders, risk management and regulatory relations on supervisory and examination matters.
* Collaborate closely with compliance department in ensuring that products and services are provided in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
* Assist in the development of internal policies, procedures, best practices and compilations of precedents and know-how related to regulatory compliance matters.

Minimum Qualifications

* J.D. from an accredited law school required.
* Strong academic credentials and admission to at least one state bar.
* 12-15 years of experience doing payments regulatory compliance work, with a combination of in-house counsel experience, government and law firm experience preferred.
* Deep experience analyzing and advising on a wide range of issues related to the payments industry, with specific expertise on prepaid, debit and credit products.
* Experience interacting with regulators and examiners on both a federal and state level.
* Strong understanding of domestic and international payments and credit industry law.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

* Relevant industry certifications such as CAMS or CFE.
* Proven ability to build strong working relationships in fast-paced and demanding environment.
* Must be able to work independently and exercise good judgment.
* Superior analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to successfully manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.
* Experience negotiating and drafting complex financial services contracts.
