Description

The Strategic Innovation team (subset of the Strategy & Innovation team) is seeking a graduate-level intern (ideally full-time but negotiable) to help drive FHI 360's innovation architecture, impact investing, and data analytics and visualization efforts. Under close supervision, the intern will perform entry to mid-level professional duties that provide professional growth and practical experience through market research on key international development trends, organizational strategic planning, and collaborative and innovative thinking with the team. The S&I team is looking for a driven, strategic thinker who enjoys problem-solving, "thinking outside the box", and is naturally curious. Duties may include qualitative and quantitative data gathering and analysis; preparing written reports and presentations; accompanying employees on assignments; and interfacing with key stakeholders. Assignments serve to offer practical experience and broad exposure to the landscape of international development and the organizational structure of a leading INGO.

Expected Timeline

End of June - end of September with possibility of extension till end of December 2019

Responsibilities

* Inform executive leadership's decision-making capabilities via quantitative and qualitative data analysis of external industries and internal organizational trends
* Applies research techniques and analytical methods to advance administrative systems, organizational structures, policies and procedures
* Develops market analyses by development sector, geography, etc.
* Synthesizes and organizes large amounts of information or data into reports, concept notes or PowerPoint presentations for an executive or leadership audience
* Collaborates with S&I team and other stakeholders, as needed, to advance team objectives



Supervision

* Has no supervisory responsibility
* Reports directly to an Associate and indirectly to an Associate Director
* Receives general instructions on assignments and work is reviewed for accuracy and completion



Travel Requirements

* Less than 10%

Physical Demands

* Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
* Ability to lift 5-50 lbs.

Qualifications

* Candidates pursuing a graduate level degree highly preferred with preference for interns who have a foundational understanding of the international development industry and/or have a management consulting or strategy background
* Requires intern to have at least 1 year of graduate-level experience
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
* Data Analytics experience with R and Python preferred
* Articulate professional who can communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff
* Preliminary experience with data mining and predictive analytics is a plus
* Experience in social entrepreneurship, design thinking, innovation, and/or impact investing is a plus
