The Research Department currently has an opening for a Research Assistant (RA) to work in Dallas, TX. The RA provides research assistance in the form of computer programming to access and manipulate data, producing charts and other graphics, and conducting statistical and econometric analysis. This person is responsible for successfully performing duties associated with providing support services and economic analysis of the highest quality while adhering to the policies and procedures of the Research Department and the Bank. Essential responsibilities include dedication to fulfilling expectations and requirements of both internal and external customers and management of priorities. A successful applicant must be capable of adapting to change and be committed to continuous improvement, both in the delivery of support services and in self-development.


* Assist economists in the regional/energy, macroeconomics/financial, or international group in compiling data/background research
* Provides a high level of support by locating, obtaining and compiling statistical data, constructing files, producing charts and other graphics, and performing statistical and econometric analysis under the direction of economists and officers for use in the Federal Open Market Committee briefing document, speeches and presentations, the monthly Board of Director's Report and other projects and publications
* Contributes with ideas and suggestions for project improvement
* Provides assistance on special projects as assigned
* Serves as backup support for other research assistants and research analysts as necessary


* Modeling, Forecasting and Economic Analysis - Economics
* Develops, analyzes and models operational, economic, management and accounting data
* Recommends solutions to new and complex problems, develops innovative strategies, quantifies the competitive performance of the organization's operations and/or markets, evaluates the potential impact of changes and reports on economic forecasts that affect the industry
* Collects and analyzes economic data on economic conditions that affect the organization's industry (e.g. inflation, national debt) for use in studies and reports to management
* Prepares reports discussing economic forecast and their impact on the industry and the organization
* Shares knowledge and provides advice to other research assistants on a variety of economic issues and assignments

* Functional Knowledge: Has established skills to perform a range of day-to-day activities

* Problem Solving: Recognizes and solves typical problems that can occur in own work area without supervisory approval; evaluates and selects solutions from established options


* Bachelor's degree in economics with knowledge using statistics and/or econometrics tools with mathematical concepts from calculus and/or linear algebra
* Basic knowledge and understanding of economic variables and their interrelationships; ability to accurately and succinctly describe economic trends in writing as requested
* Knowledge of the purpose and nature of specific data sets requested by economists; ability to use the internet to conduct research
* Understanding of basic econometric techniques that facilitate interpretation and use of data in economic analysis; basic knowledge of programming in an econometric package such as STATA, R, SAS, or EVIEWS
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Equivalent education and / or experience may be substituted

Work Hours & Conditions:

Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; flexibility / additional hours may be required based on business needs; some travel may be required, up to 5%


Employment is contingent upon the selected candidate passing a financial credit check.

By federal law, this position requires that candidates fall within one of the following citizenship categories: (1) U.S. citizen, (2) U.S. national, (3) U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization, or (4) U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so.

For serious consideration this position requires that all candidates provide transcripts and two letters of recommendation from professors at your university.

This position may be filled at various levels based on candidate's experience and departmental needs.

Assessments may be required as part of the interview process.
