Long-Term Intern, Capital Markets-Portfolio Strategy

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines seeks a Long-term intern to assist with Portfolio Management and Treasury processes, which are likely to include reporting, trade analysis, project management, assistance to analytical and trading staff and development of systems knowledge. This will also include learning the Bank's pre-trade analytic systems such as Principia and Polypaths.

Core bank hours are 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Recent or current master students and candidates in a quantitative discipline who are able to work full-time hours are preferred. This paid internship is expected to run for 9 months.


* Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, math, engineering, or science
* Student in graduate or master's program preferred
* Knowledge of fixed income and derivative products preferred
* Financial analysis experience dealing with fixed-income instruments such as mortgage backed securities and derivatives helpful
* Strong skills in Excel, Access and Word; Programming skills are a plus
* Familiarity with Bloomberg helpful
* Strong communication skills
* Detail oriented

Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (the Bank) is a federally chartered corporation. The Bank invests in mortgage loans through the Mortgage Partnership Finance (MPF) Program, which is a secondary mortgage market structure, under which it purchases eligible mortgage loans from participating financial institution members (PFIs) (collectively, MPF loans). MPF loans are conforming conventional and Government, which is insured or guaranteed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the Rural Housing Service of the Department of Agriculture (RHS) or the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) fixed rate mortgage loans secured by one-to-four family residential properties with maturities ranging from 5 years to 30 years or participations in such mortgage loans.
