Job Summary

Position: It Specialist - System Administrator/Customer Support, GS 9/11

Division: Indianapolis - HQC

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Working Hours: 8:15am - 5:00pm (subject to change)

Salary:

GS 9: $57,014.00 - $74,120.00

GS 11: $62,613.00 - $81,400.00

Full Performance level: GS 12

Duration: Full Time/Permanent

Key Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance.
  • Must have (or be able to obtain) a valid driver’s license.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  While some of the work is sedentary, there is frequent requirement for regular and recurring lifting and carrying of heavy weight (over 50 pounds) and occasional lifting and carrying of heavier materials and objects.

Major Duties:

  • Directs the daily operations of computers that function either as standalone single processor computer systems or as interlocking portions of the overall mainframe computer system
  • Resolves complex processing problems and error conditions
  • Provides onsite assistance to personnel concerning the data processing, word processing and telecommunications capabilities of the office
  • Provides systems design and programming services for the field office.
  • Ensures all records, documentation, manuals and related materials are properly maintained
  • Performs complex special project assignments such as evaluating system capabilities, major changes resulting from implementation of new software/hardware, feasibility and functionality of purchasing new software/hardware as it becomes available

Specialized Experience (SE):

GS 09:  Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 07 grade level.

Specialized Experience is:

  • Provided technical support and assistance to other office employees in using software developed locally or provided to an office as part of the automation program.
  • Participated in testing and debugging various aspects of online systems and programs, providing feedback concerning possible modifications or improvements.

GS 11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 9 grade level.

Specialized experience is:

  • Provided advice and/or guidance to various levels of personnel regarding administrative and technical matters related to IT programs and/or services
  • Configured, installed, repaired, and/or maintained computer networks, desktops, and mainframe operating systems
  • Diagnosed and resolved system problems by analyzing problems and issues
  • Worked with clients and customers to assess their needs; provided assistance, resolved problems, and provided quality products and services
  • Conveyed information clearly and concisely, orally and in written format


Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
