GS 12: $84,035.00 - $109,245.00

Major Duties

  • Serves as local technical authority in the office of assignment concerning administration of health care services and programs of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Ensures the medical readiness of the workforce through the administration of the Fitness for Duty (FFD), Medical mandates, Travel Medicine and Vaccination Programs.
  • Manages the medical surveillance programs.
  • Assesses and treats both routine and emergency health care needs of employees.
  • Provides health promotion activities within the scope of FBI directives and accepted standards of occupational nursing practice. Health promotion covers areas such as health and wellness, travel medicine, nutrition, as well as disease specific topics.
  • Responsible for fitness for duty examinations for annual health reviews of all employees in positions with medical requirements, including ensuring currency of immunizations, reviewing and analyzing of health reviews, medical reports, diagnostic tests and laboratory findings, as well as, scheduling medical examinations as required. Assesses fitness for duty related health matters of on-board personnel.
  • Identifies the critical issues and problems related to the review of employment medical documentation.
  • Analyzes data from various sources and makes clinical judgments about complex issues.
  • Maintains communication with other FBI Occupational Health Nurses, Regional Occupational Health Managers, Medical Officers, and HQ-HPCU Administrators.

Positive Education Requirement

BASIC EDUCATION: Applicants MUST have a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and possess an active, current, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also meet the specialized experience as described below:

GS 12: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 11 grade level.

Specialized experience is:

  • Providing medical care in a community or occupational health setting
  • Managing and delivering occupational health programs
  • Developing and implementing employee wellness plans and programs

  • The FBI is in the Executive Branch of the federal government. It is one of the components of the Department of Justice (DOJ). The FBI is the principle investigative arm of the DOJ. All FBI positions are in the excepted service.
