Job Description

Overview

Under the direction of the pharmacist, assists with medication procurement, preparation and distribution to ensure the safe and timely provision of pharmacy services. Provides pharmaceutical services to the patients and hospital staff in accordance with all regulatory requirements under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Responsibilities/Job Description

Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

* Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
* Dispenses and distributed medications in accurate and timely manner while adhering to department policies and procedures and regulatory agencies (e.g., Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, CMS).
* Fills and labels new medication orders accurately and within departmental time standards.
* Accurately fills and exchanges patient medication drawers.
* Prepares sterile products (both non-hazardous and hazardous) using appropriate aseptic technique while adhering to USP 797 requirements.
* Performs automated dispensing cabinet restocking duties to ensure the quality and appropriate quantity of medications are stocked.
* Performs bulk compounding and packaging duties to ensure an uninterrupted supply of medications while adhering to USP 795 requirements and Minnesota Board of Pharmacy Rules.
* Maintains neat and clean work area to promote patient safety and infection control.
* Provides drug education to physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff and other hospital staff and patients to enhance drug information and promote rational drug therapy under the guidance of a pharmacist.
* Interview patients to obtain an accurate medication history and appropriately document in the electronic medical record.
* Assists in researching drug information questions under the guidance of a pharmacist.
* Understands and demonstrates the concepts of providing pharmacy clinical services under the guidance of a pharmacist.
* Assists in pharmacy department improvement projects and completes responsibilities accurately within the required time frame.

Qualifications

Education:

* Currently enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy and successful completion of the first year of the program. Registered with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy as an intern.
