Job Description

Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Instagram) (Menlo Park, CA)
Careers at Instagram
A Facebook Company

On a typical day of the week, Instagram deploys a new version of its backend software to production over a dozen times. We are looking for engineers who are excited about the challenge of building & scaling systems as we rapidly iterate on our product.

Our team builds the services and manages the systems that serve Instagram's backend, an infrastructure that spans thousands of machines. Instagram presents the rare opportunity to work on large scale systems that reach hundreds of millions of people while part of a tight-knit team. Ideal candidates will enjoy the thrill of streamlining and supporting our backend as well as building new systems that will enable us to expand our reach to a billion people and beyond.
Responsibilities Creating simple, clean code to power new product features, as well as refactoring and improving existing code when things get a little too hairy
The on-going challenge of evolving our stack as request and data volumes grow larger and larger every month
Automation of migration and maintenance across our entire infrastructure
Building the infrastructure that quickly identifies and surfaces production issues that impact our community
As a small team, we all take part in on-call rotation
You will be working across our stack with technologies like Python, Memcached, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Chef, Cassandra and more

Requirements A college degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or similar field, including a solid understanding of Computer Science fundamentals
A scrappy, entrepreneurial attitude that gets high-quality projects done quickly
Experience working with distributed systems
Experience with system-level tools for debugging a big plus
Familiarity with pieces of our existing stack is a plus
Understanding and experience of security of systems and networking
