POSITION: 1-Facilities Technical Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Facilities

LOCATION: Westwood

RATES OF PAY: $45.82

CURRENTLY POSTED HOURS: 7:30am - 4pm

SCHEDULE :M-F

REMARKS:

This position provides technical assistance to the Facilities Planner in meeting the Facilities Planner's duties and responsibilities in connection with space planning, construction and renovation, long and short-range planning forecasts, partition/furniture/equipment inventories, computer aided design/drafting, office standards drawings (such as architectural/engineering, construction, etc) space plans, interior design, building operation and maintenance, life safety systems, parking, traffic, and vehicular projects, ergonomics, and facility management databases. The Facilities Technical Assistant designs for the construction of safe and sanitary operating facilities by preparing and maintaining technical reports, facility management databases, sketches, technical specifications, cost estimates, project schedules and working drawings for real estate, building repair, renovation, and new construction projects. In addition, this position coordinates and implements these plans through completion, including upgrading and design changes dictated by applicable local, state and federal codes, statutes and regulations.

The department management makes assignments in terms of the purpose of the work and possible complex features; incumbent determines the approaches and solutions to the complex features. The Facilities Technical Assistant completes assignments with minimum supervision, conferring with department management on unusual matters and controversial features or for technical direction and guidance. The Facilities Technical Assistant has latitude for independent action and/or decision regarding the development of design and space planning as it applies to office standards but final decisions are subject to approval by management before manpower and resources are committed to implement design choice. The incumbent is responsible to complete tasks on time and within budget. In addition, the Facilities Technical Assistant is required to regularly report the status of projects to department management and request work as projects wind down.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Associate of science degree in Engineering (preferably Civil, Mechanical or Electrical, Architecture, or Architectural Engineering), and a minimum of 8 years experience performing space planning and design using both manual design/drafting and computer aided design/drafting. In addition to the aforementioned 8 years, a minimum of 4 years of practical experience in one or several building trades and/or coordination/supervision of construction activities is required (this can be concurrent with the space planning and design minimum years experience); or alternatively, a Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering (preferably Civil, Mechanical or Electrical, Architecture, or Architectural Engineering) and a minimum of 5 years experience (as stated above), of which 3 years can include practical experience (as stated above).

2. Requires two years of college level study relating to engineering principles or the equivalent in practical experience in electrical transmission and distribution construction.

3. In the analysis and evaluation of organizational systems, procedures, and operating needs, the incumbent frequently interfaces with senior management and employees of all levels within the Company requesting space planning expertise and, therefore, must possess strong interpersonal, administrative, oral/written communication and analytical skills.

4. Working knowledge of personal computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets and e-mail.

5. Valid drivers license.
