Systems Software Architect-Network (Function) Virtualization / SDN / L2/L3 / Infrastructure

PDU IPROUTERS provides IP platforms including Smart Services Router, Smart Packet Router, Smart Edge for fixed and mobile applications. It is a global organization providing IP Systems for Wireless and Fixed applications, in the metro, aggregation and edge market segments, including among others SDN, BNG, EPG, MBH, L2/L3, CDN/TIC, WIFI. PDU IP Router plays an active and leading role in providing the next generation IP platforms utilizing SDN, NFV and Cloud technologies. The PDU IP Router product family is SDN, NFV and Cloud enabled. PDU IP Routers serves over 400+ customers including major Tier-1 operators around the world. PDU IP Routers is headquartered in San Jose reporting to DU IP & Broadband.
 

Ericsson’s IP Routers team is responsible for driving cutting edge IP technologies to meet the demands of operators to build state of the art broadband, aggregation, metro, backhaul and edge networks that can deliver triple play services like: IPTV, Video on Demand, Video Conferencing, Virtual Private Networks, Broadband Aggregation, Wi-Fi solutions, Multimedia Networks, and Edge Routing. This IP Routers team develops HW platforms, L2/L3 functionality and ASICs to meet the technology needs of the operator community. PDU IP Routers is working on developing the next generation IP platforms utilizing cutting-edge technologies like SDN, NFV and Cloud and technology including ASIC's to meet the requirements of the 4th generation IP networks.

We are looking for a visionary Network (Function) Virtualization architect and an SDN architect to join our innovative and tightly knit Systems Team at IP Routers Product Development Unit. The Systems Team is centrally located in San Jose, California with support offices in Vancouver (BC), Jorvas, Beijing, Budapest, and Bangalore. San Jose is focused on innovation, thought leadership in IP, developing sound architectures, and providing the support to the software, hardware, and test teams in order to deliver cutting edge solutions. The IP Systems Product Development Unit is a hub for innovation and creativity for individuals with a strong commitment to results and teamwork.
 

Responsibilities

  • Defining the requirements and strategy for the prototypes and features for next generation product portfolio.
  • Do implementation to help port new applications
  • Implement parts of key features for Next Generation product
  • Develop software to work with new stacks and components with vendors
  • Developing Implementation plans in collaboration with hardware and software teams
  • Interfacing with suppliers and HW and software teams to define the scope of prototyping activities
  • Securing components (HW and SW) needed for the prototyping.
  • Troubleshooting HW and software issues in a lab environment
  • Coordinating and collaborating with other Ericsson sites to execute prototypes
  • Algorithm design and development
  • Developing new architectures
  • Deliver parts of cutting edge L2/L3, network (function) virtualization / SDN solutions on our world class products (SSR, SF, NFV based products etc)
  • Deliver parts of infrastructure features for all the product portfolio (e.g. ISSU etc)
  • Deliver parts of detailed designs of network (function) virtualization / SDN (OpenFlow, OpenStack...) to software engineers, hardware engineers and validation engineers.
  • Implement parts of architectural design with business use cases, trade-offs, and risk mitigation included.
  • Provide technical presentations and documentation to influence other stakeholders within and outside of Ericsson
  • Potentially take partial responsibilities in project management and team coordination
     

Required Competence / Experience

  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering with a focus on communication networks is desired.
  • Background in networking with focus on IP technologies (including network (function) virtualization / SDN and MPLS)
  • Good understanding of Infrastructure of router platforms (e.g. ISSU)
  • Good understanding of SDN Applications, SDN Controllers (e.g. OpenDaylight), and SDN Data Plane.
  • Good understanding of OS (Linux), Hypervisors (KVM, Xen etc).
  • Good understanding of OF (Open Flow), OF Config, Open vSwitch, OVSDB
  • Good understanding of Open Stack (Neutron, Nova etc)
  • Good understanding of legacy routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP etc) and related data plane architectures.
  • Excellent programming skills (C/C++)
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to work with other engineering teams
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks
  • Strong motivation in driving leading edge technologies
