Internship overview :
Ericsson is interested in investigating spectrum sharing techniques in wireless networks. There is a spectrum crunch, driven by the success of mobile systems and this has been acknowledged by the US government. For instance in 2010 it announced a 10 year plan to secure 500 MHz of spectrum for wireless broadband. But the spectrum in question has many incumbents, and some of the solutions being proposed for using it involve spectrum sharing. More generally, there are many proposals to move away from the exclusive spectrum use model currently in use in mobile networks, towards a spectrum sharing model. This raises many technical questions about the design and performance of a mobile network. In particular, Ericsson wishes to understand how current mobile technologies can be adapted to the spectrum sharing model.
