Job Description

The Sustainability Intern will be responsible for helping the company fulfill its vision of providing renewable fuels that improve the environmental profile of energy generation by conducting a data quality assurance and validation project related to Enviva's Track & Trace forest supply chain tracking program.

The Intern will be responsible for expanding upon prior efforts to use GPS coordinates from the historical Track & Trace database, publically available satellite imagery, and other data sources to identify and delineate the harvests from which Enviva has procured wood fiber. His or her work will help form a foundation for the development of robust monitoring around Enviva's land use change policy.

The Intern will create an updated and enhanced harvest location dataset as well as a Google Earth polygon database of harvests Enviva sourced from in its Chesapeake and Cottondale supply bases. Time permitting, the Intern will also help develop recommendations for the implementation of sustained monitoring and evaluation procedures around Enviva's land use change policy.

The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and will be a strategist and an analytical thinker dedicated to Enviva's mission of sustainable biomass sourcing. The Sustainability Analyst will report to the Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer.


* Currently pursuing Bachelor's degree in forestry/ environmental science/ forest economics
* Familiarity with forestry, forest ecology, and land use in the US, especially in the US South
* Experience with data analysis, with specific experience with GIS and remote sensing methodologies preferred
* Strong analytical, communications, and interpersonal skills and strategy acumen
* Sound judgment, strong problem solving skills and ability to work independently
