JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn the elementary principles and functions of nuclear power plant systems.
  • Learn basic radiation protection fundamentals and good work practices.
  • Operate simple equipment such as waste compactors, decon laundry machines for clothing and masks, tool and equipment decon units and survey instruments.
  • Be able to erect work containment areas to minimize the spread of radioactive contamination.
  • Assist in providing radiological controls during special and routine operations, special and routine maintenance, refuelings and emergency or unusual operations.
  • Prepare minor reports, log results of surveys
  • Operate computer terminals.
  • Maintain qualifications to operate motor vehicles, such as automobiles or light trucks.
  • May train others within a limited scope concerning decontamination duties.
  • Perform necessary housekeeping, decontamination of equipment, clothing and areas as per applicable Nuclear Regulatory Commission endorsed regulations and standards.
  • Comply with established procedures and with rules of Code of Federal Regulations, Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulatory guides, National Standards and other regulatory agencies.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No previous experience required.
  • Within six months after employment, know Company's safety rules.
  • Within thirty days after employment in this department, know the location of, and be able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment.  Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil and other fires.

 

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Age ‑ 19 minimum.
  • Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.
  • Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require i.e. carrying PCs, trash and lead blankets.

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents.
  • Be willing to attend and take part in safety meetings.
  • Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
  • Be willing to work irregular or extra hours as required.
  • Be willing to participate as a member of the radiation emergency team and be qualified as a radiation worker.
  • Be able to receive and transmit orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of both superiors and subordinates.
  • Have a temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision and patience are particularly essential.
  • Be especially neat, clean and orderly in work and person.
  • Understand importance of always rendering and maintaining first class courteous service while ensuring compliance with radiological procedures and good work practices.
  • Demonstrate skill in developing rapport and a spirit of cooperativeness among other disciplines or workers while ensuring compliance with radiological procedures and work practices.
  • Have Aptitude to progress to Radiation Protection Technician 3RD Class
