Job Description

Accounting Specialist - Contract to Hire

Description:

  • Reviews general ledger accounts and prepares and adjusts journal entries.

  • Performs account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts.

  • Maintains the general ledger chart of accounts.

  • Assists with initial internal control evaluations.

  • Posts monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals.

Top Daily Responsibilities:

  • Journal Entries (ranging from simple, to very complex)

  • Reconciliations (ranging from simple to very complex)

  • Fixed Asset and Property Accounting (cap vs. expense analysis, supporting projects, impairment analysis)

  • Process Improvements and Innovations

  • Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting (US GAAP and Statutory Reporting)

  • Evaluate transactions and record to the GL as necessary to ensure financials are accurate and complete.

  • Perform financial analysis of actual results against budget/forecast and understand the business environment to ensure financial statements are reported in accordance with US GAAP.

  • Research technical accounting issues and work with management on solutions

Requirements:

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Accounting/Finance combination (Finance alone is not sufficient) CPA preferred

  • Big 4 accounting (KPMG, PWC, EY, Deloitte) experience and/or big public company experience preferred.

  • 3 years of experience; mix of industry or public accounting/audit experience preferred

  • Federal Check Required

  • MVR Required

  • Strong US GAAP skills (beyond basic debits/credit understanding)

  • Knows how to efficiently/effectively utilize Excel and other office products (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)

  • Strong communication skills/knows how to hold meetings, seek out support to resolve issues and projects, can articulate information at both a macro and micro level depending on audience

  • Strong analytical/reporting skills

  • Strong professional skepticism

  • Strong technical/functional skills (eg, solid understanding of US GAAP, knack for systems like PeopleSoft/Oracle)

  • Deals well with ambiguity - can effectively cope with change; can shift gears comfortably, can comfortably handle risk and uncertainty

  • Has a risk/control mindset (eg, can identify risk areas and recommend mitigation; has had experience dealing with SOX)

    Limited Local Travel Required; Some travel to other regions may be required
