Position Summary


The Enable Midstream Partners Design and Drafting Team plays an integral role in the design of capital expansion and maintenance projects. The multi-discipline team creates phased project drawing files and reports to assist in many aspects of project and facility lifecycles; the primary areas include: engineering standard drawings development, project scope development, feasibility designs, bidding, procurement, and construction processes, project closeout process, and lifecycle maintenance of our midstream natural gas gathering, transmission, storage, and processing facility drawings.

Responsible for participating and leading the creation and maintenance of multidisciplinary drawings for natural gas facilities including processing plants, compressor stations, junctions, interconnects, measurement stations, as well as other facilities related to natural gas midstream, crude oil systems, and natural gas liquid systems. Leads a variety of Design/Drafting assignments. Coordinates, investigates, and procures all data required to develop a design. Leads in the development of original designs or adaptations requiring specialized experience. Acts as a mentor and coach.

Advanced responsibilities related to primary focus of job area. Plans and prioritizes work and works under minimal guidance. Provides guidance and training to less experienced Drafters and Designers. Expert in own area of responsibility. Fully understands principles and purpose of Design & Drafting.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


  • Performs advanced and occasionally oversees design and drafting assignments in support of Project Management, Operations, PSM, and Integrity Management (Compliance).

  • Coordinates the design and drafting of facilities with consulting engineers, contractors and affected Company departments.

  • Provide technical support to all company employees to enhance our ability to meet customer expectations and provide a safe, reliable system.

  • Research company archive files for project data.

  • Assist stakeholders with facilities information inquiries.

  • Evaluates work and assigns daily tasks to self and others based on knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Mentors/coach's employees.

  • Trains other company employees as needed on advanced design and drafting techniques.

  • Must demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company'sComplianceandCode of Ethics, and other Company policies and procedures, and take all required training courses.

  • Maintain open communication with the designers/drafters and all stakeholders.

  • Ensure that the correct checks and audits are carried out at the appropriate time in the project schedule.

  • Meet all deadlines as required by project schedule.

  • Coordinate with outside consultants, fabricators, vendors, contractors and equipment manufactures on individual project needs. Administer contract for and direct the efforts of contract designers and drafters utilized by Enable Midstream Partners.

  • Routinely leads/coordinates/develops a complete front end / conceptual design for natural gas midstream systems, crude oil systems, and natural gas liquid systems. Facilities include but not limited to: Gas Processing Plants, Compression Stations (Gathering and Transmission), Meter Sites, Deliveries, Interconnects, Junctions, Main Line Valve Sites, etc...

  • Leads/Coordinates/Develops PFD's, P&ID's, intelligent 3D models, Piping Plans and Sections, Piping Isometric Drawings, Civil/Foundation Details and Layouts, Structural Details, Engineering Standard Drawings

  • Leads/Coordinates/Develops project facility line lists and valve lists, weld reports, and volume calculations.

  • Leads/Coordinates/Develops project facility Bill of Materials

  • Regularly leads the project design team for both piping and instrumentation/electrical including determining work assignments, meeting project deadlines, and cost estimating

  • Routinely coordinates and frequently participates in design meetings with engineers and other disciplines in the development of complete drawing packages

  • Leads/Coordinates/Develops detailed facility and system designs using information from various sources which may include site studies, vendor drawings, catalog data, engineering sketches, reference drawings and input from other disciplines

  • Ensures compliance with approved engineering standards

  • Reviews/Checks drawing packages throughout lifecycle

  • Works with little or no supervision.

  • Must demonstrate respect for all individuals and adhere to the Company's values and business practices.


Education & Experience

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology combined with seven (7) years Design/Drafting experience in upstream, midstream, or downstream facilities or High School diploma and ten (10) years equivalent Design/Drafting related experience.
  • One (1) year of industry specific Design experience preferred.
  • Experienced in the use of Bentley, Intergraph, or Autodesk products is required.
  • Knowledge of land-base and survey boundary information.
  • Previous lead experience is desired.
  • Field experience is strongly desired.
  • Valid State Driver's License.

  • Must understand the work and services provided by the operations group.

  • Proficient in use of computers, plotters, GPS, and other design and drafting and office equipment.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products

  • Ability to communicate effectively in speech (English) and writing (English) with members at all levels throughout the organization and outside professionals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Advanced knowledge of construction methods, sequence of construction, and safe practices of construction

  • Able to successfully coordinate with contractors, crafts, and clients

  • Ability to recognize material on location by sight

  • Ability to effectively lead a design team

  • Must understand and comply with company and industry safety standards and regulations.

  • Must be able to interact with co-workers and be willing to contribute to overall success of the company.

  • Must work independently and complete all assigned tasks.

  • Must be able to perform basic and advanced design and drafting techniques.

  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements and systems.

  • Must possess extensive knowledge of company's design standards and/or industry design standards.

  • Advanced understanding of industry best practices and standards as related to CAD drafting.

  • Advanced understanding of Engineering, Construction, and Operations pertaining to the industry.

  • Action oriented, including enthusiasm for challenges and opportunities

  • Ability to mentor lower level designers and draftsmen in industry best practices and standards

  • Ability to think creatively in order to propose new solutions for old and new issues.

  • Ability to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API, AGA and ISA


Physical Requirements

  • Able to exert in excess of 20 pounds of force, and/or in excess of 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects.

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including occasional climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.

  • May be required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.

  • May be required to stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.

  • Able to travel long distances in a motor vehicle.

  • Based upon department resources, the nature of the work, and the size of the department, the ability to differentiate colors may be required for some positions.

  • On an occasional basis, may climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.


Working Conditions

  • Primary work in office environment.

  • Able to work overtime occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines

  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.

  • May require up to 25% travel. (e.g. field/work locations, conferences/seminars, overnight)
