* Performs routine professional accounting duties requiring limited independent judgment.
* Monitors, audits and reconciles departmental accounts.
* Researches and creates new accounts and codes.
* Prepares journal transactions, balances accounts, reconciles errors and takes corrective action.
* Assists in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets.
* Advises management of cash deficits.
* Prepares audit schedules in support of internal and external audits.
* Maintains databases and assimilates financial and statistical data. Prepares routine operational and statistical reports.
* May assist with computer operations for the department.
* May maintain departmental grants and monitor petty cash activity.
* May coordinate invoice preparation, payables and/or receivables.
* Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

The role of the Accountant is to perform routine professional accounting duties that includes account creation, prepare journal entries, conduct reconciliations and research, processing deposits. The position also provides professional and strategic analysis, counsel, and training to the executive boards of the student government bodies including the student executive vice presidents for finance for both SGA and GSGA. Additionally, the position collaborates within and across units to cultivate and expand relationships between student organizations and faculty/staff advisors. Serves on departmental committees as assigned. Work schedule includes some nights and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience working in the general ledger, accounts payable, or project accounting
* Proficient user of excel - ability to work with formulas
* Demonstrated experience producing spreadsheets and financial reports
* Candidate must have strong organizational skills; ability to work within diverse group setting; and flexibility with varied work situations.
* Ability to be a good listener, and consistently work well with students and staff throughout all levels of the organization
* Attention to detail, accuracy, ability to work independently, ability to multi-task
* Ability to work autonomously and to demonstrate strong initiative.
* Experience delegating and the ability to convey clear expectations and boundaries, while developing an atmosphere of trust and support.
