Job Description

Appleton, a leader in electrical power solutions for industry, is looking to add a high visibility technical staff leader. The Project Engineer - Electrical Controls and Connectivity will design and develop products for global markets that distribute, control and monitor electrical power in hazardous and heavy industrial applications. This position will provide technical leadership for a global project team. Projects cover a mix of new product development and product enhancement programs. The ideal candidate will be highly self-driven with a breadth of technical experience encompassing mechanical design of electrical power devices, thermoplastic components, metal casting, system engineering, product certifications, and lean design methods.

Job Responsibilities

* Design electrical controls and plug/receptacles/connectors for industrial and hazardous locations
* Full product development process participation - concept, product specifications, design, supplier specifications, product validation, and production launch
* Work with product management in translating voice of customer research and competitive product evaluations into actionable specifications for product designs
* Maintain a working understanding of product design requirements for hazardous location products
* Design control, bill of material creation and maintenance, tracking and controlling design costs
* Support project management from inception to launch, coordinating activities of a multidiscipline global team through Emerson's phase-gate NPD process
* Research and apply innovative technology directed at creating new products

* Position located in Rosemont, IL BU Headquarters office

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
* 2 to 5 years related experience
* Thorough knowledge of thermoplastic, rubber, elastomeric, metal casting, electrical contact and conductor design
* Successful development and introduction of product into production
* Experience in hazardous location and/or heavy industrial product design
* Experience developing products for extreme operating conditions with long operating life
* Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD), rapid prototyping, 3D printing and additive manufacturing
* Working knowledge of project management processes and tools; MS Office, MS Project
* Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

* Masters of Science Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Development
* Track record of successful product innovation
